Bottle, 12/31/2013. Pours black, creamy light tan head, soapy ring of lacing around the glass. Aroma is earthy dark chocolate, mild roast, dark fruit, berries, cherry licorice blending with sweet vinous notes and mild bourbon in the finish. Taste is dark bitter roast, coffee, chocolate, licorice, boozy bourbon with subtle vinous finish. Medium body. Really interesting, tasty blend.

33 cl.

Bottle. Black with a medium sized good lasting light brown head. Cocoa, dark chocolate, warming alcohol, brown sugar, light ash, light bourbon notes, oak. Full body, oily/soft texture, medium carbonation, near heavy sweet and bitter. Long finish with barrel notes and a little alcohol. Tommy likey, Tommy want wingy.

11.2 oz bottle, thanks to Charles!!! Deep, decently viscous jet black pour, small rim of bubbles as a head. Nose and flavor are unique and interesting, with definite tannic sweetness mixed with dry roasted espresso beans, port, vanilla, hints of Fernet, chocolate ganache. Rich, but not quite as deep and profound as most of this series. Very tasty, but doesn’t hold a candle to Misto B.A. and a couple of the other variants.

Bottle at Casper is back tasting. Black beer lasting beige head. Some spirit aroma. Lovely impy stout flavour. A little hot. Decent though. Touch of hot ginger. Decent some choc sponge.

Bottle shared at chriso’s. Pours black-brown with a thick, creamy tan head. The nose has prominent dark fruits, chocolate, grapes, char. Medium to big sweet flavor with sugary dark fruits, oily tar, cocoa, earth, burnt wood. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warming finish with some tangy dark fruits, other dark fruits, mild milk chocolate. Interesting beer.

Bottle thanks to Matteo. It pours near black with a small tan head. The nose is rich, roasty, dark chocolate, burnt caramel, candy, vanilla, fudge, treacle and rocky road The taste is bitter, roasty, some acidity, acrid bitterness, toast, earth, dark chocolate, warming alcohol, oak, light vanilla and toast with a dry, richly roasty finish. Medium-full body and fine, prickly carbonation. Decent, but a touch rough and ready...

Waxed bottle 330 ml at home, poured into a snifter. ABV 10.5% Pours totally black with a huge dark brown head, ever rising, thick, with great retention. Heavy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, alcohol, coffee, wood, light bourbon, light wine notes as it begins to warm up. Taste of dark roasted malts, light acidity, liquorice, alcohol, light whiskey, bitter coffee and dark chocolate. Not much of the wine and the bourbon is a bit faint, but it’s still very good. Full chewy body low carbonation. Sticky palate. Overall very good.

Draught@FdB Köln 2014, SA. Perfectly balanced, very subtle and smoothed-out blend of their ImpStout classic, with that distinct, but again subtle red wine barrel deep red berry component, smoothing out the tar and barrel astringency towards silky succulence and excellent drinkability. Underneath, and at the core of this treat: deep 60% bitter chocolate, confident roasted malts not in need of proving they can play espresso; just the right amount of what feel like natural, supportive sugars and caramels, a separate dimension of butterscotch and bourbon vanilla. Seamy, creamy mouthfeel, with any yeast character remaining a ghostly absence. Hard to find fault or top, this gorgeously restrained (!) exercise in integrated less-is-more-despite-there-being-much-more-than-in
