Very dark brown, minimal bubbly beige head. Very complex; spices, syrup, espresso, bourbon, roasted malts, burnt cookies, dark chocolate. Very rich, sweet taste with burnt bitter finish. Thick, syruppy feel, with creamy carbonation. Great stuff.

Noire et plate, liquoreuse. Au nez : Malts grillés, pruneaux, réglisse. En bouche, forte amertume, corps moelleux et rond, liquoreuse, gout de café, et de chocolat noir., alcool trop présent. Un peu trop brutal !

75 cl bottle (No 280 bottled on 11 August 2010) Appearance: Black with a small tanned head Aroma: dark chocolate and roasted malt and some coffee with some dark fruits in the background. Taste: Starts with chocolate and licorice tones fruit, then the roasted/coffee aspects further kicks in, ends with a bit a bittersweet with some vanilla and dry earth tones. Roasted bitterness aspect overpowers most aspects and hides the alcohol totally. thick creamy texture, low carbonation.

Poured from bottle #1371 of 2011 vintage. Black with a two finger tan head. Nice lacing and head lasted for 10 minutes. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malt with some dark fruits. Flavor fell a bit flat. Some dark fruits a little tart. Might have been better to let this one sit for 5 or 10 more years. Oh well. Finishes a bit sweet and bitter. Nice beer to end 2013 on.

I thought this was sour in way that it shouldn’t be. It was the backbone of a beer that had potentially a great flavour to it. The coffee notes were really muted and I got much more fruitiness than I expected. Didn’t get ahead when poured but did have a decent carbonation that made it interesting to drink. I’m confused as to why I didn’t get more intense coffee and perhaps the sourness was the coffee bitterness (and a light came on) it’s not a bad sourness it’s familiar and comfortable, just unexpected.

Pours black. And I mean black like pitch black. Small head disappears quickly. In aroma coffee, dark chocolate and some fruits (they’re there, but can’t understand which ones as the coffee and chocolate are so intensive). Almost no carbonation, creamy/oily feel. Alcohol is in there, but does not feel like 10% beer when drinking. Superb winter beer!

Bottle 33 cl. Bottled on 8-11-2012. Pours a thin brown head that immediately vanishes. The beer is pitch black and blocks all light that attempts to run through it. It looks like a black hole, like liquid licorice. I like it very much. It has a very rich aroma, I smell coffee, fruits, chocolate, toffee, licorice, hops, yeast, roasted malts, banana, wood and smoke. Very complex and balanced. Taste is even better, charcoal, more fruits, roasted malts, chocolate, biscuits, alcohol, coffee, bonfire, licorice and the list goes on… The aftertaste is particularly hoppy. The body is very thick and oily. I’m completely overwhelmed by this beer, it is simply amazing. It is art.

Cold espresso without its bitterness. Much more body. Smell not impressive, but looks are. Some sweetness. Amazing toffee, chocolate, mocha, coffee. Intense. Smooth.
