4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours black. And I mean black like pitch black. Small head disappears quickly. In aroma coffee, dark chocolate and some fruits (they’re there, but can’t understand which ones as the coffee and chocolate are so intensive). Almost no carbonation, creamy/oily feel. Alcohol is in there, but does not feel like 10% beer when drinking. Superb winter beer!

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle 33 cl. Bottled on 8-11-2012. Pours a thin brown head that immediately vanishes. The beer is pitch black and blocks all light that attempts to run through it. It looks like a black hole, like liquid licorice. I like it very much. It has a very rich aroma, I smell coffee, fruits, chocolate, toffee, licorice, hops, yeast, roasted malts, banana, wood and smoke. Very complex and balanced. Taste is even better, charcoal, more fruits, roasted malts, chocolate, biscuits, alcohol, coffee, bonfire, licorice and the list goes on… The aftertaste is particularly hoppy. The body is very thick and oily. I’m completely overwhelmed by this beer, it is simply amazing. It is art.

Taste: very intense coffee, dark chocolate, liquor and dark fruits, maybe even raisins. Long bitter finish with hints of alcohol. Medium carbonation. Overall: really great beer. Fully deserves the high rating.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Keg at the pigs ear fest 2013. Aroma is soft roast choc and fruity raisin and apricot. Booze is present but under control. Opaque black pour with a thin lasting tan head. Flavour is more fruit driven with apricot and rum soaked raisin. Some belgian yeast character. The finish is crisp chalky roast that lingers. A big boy’s beer.

Bottle at FoCo StoutTasting 2013, courtesy of Armin. Thanks man! Pour is pitch black with a big brown head and good lacing. Dark fruity, cocoa, figs, raisins, light peat, somewhat tangy, and roasty aroma. Taste is light brandy, chocolate, coffee, toasted malt, bready, dark cherries, grapes, and toffee with a light bitter finish. Slick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Really nice stuff, can’t wait to try the variations.

12oz 2011 bottle shared thanks to Paul! Pours a reddish black with thin ring of brown lacy head that webs lightly. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, slight booze, and a hint of spicy Belgian esters. Taste is boozy chocolate up front, roast comes in the middle, vanilla, oak, and sweet ending. Very nice.
