4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Tinco (415) - Linköping, SWEDEN - MAR 12, 2013
Bottled 22 June 2011. Pours pitch black with a nice two finger compact mocha head. Look lovely! Aroma is rich dark chocolate with prominents roasted notes, coffee, cacao, dark caramel, dark fruits. Complex aroma. Taste: medium sweet with a medium bitterness. Rich dark cacao, dark fruits, raisins, some booze, roasted, almost a rich cognac note, slightly ashy. Very complex. This is a lovely stout! The 2 years in the cellar has done this brew good. Like it more now than fresh as flavours have evolved and gotten more complex. Have some more bottles that’ll be interesting in trying in a year or two! =) Cheers!

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Gerbeer (856) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 5, 2013

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 martinen (36) - Malmö, SWEDEN - MAR 5, 2013
Från flaska på 33 cl beställd från De Molen Webshop. Doften kan jag tyvärr inte avgöra med bästa precision på grund av en förkylning, men det smakar fantastiskt.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 neuromatt (858) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 23, 2013
330 mL bottle, served in a snifter alongside the Bunnahabbhain barrel-aged version at a tasting at Chris’ place. Pours black with a small tan head that fades slowly to a thin cover. The nose has big chocolate and molasses, along with moderate herbs, spice and caramel. The flavour is malty, with a complex blend of molasses, roasted malts, brown sugar, coffee and dark chocolate. The finish is long and lingering roasted malts. On the palate, it is full in body with a creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a beautiful imperial stout that would likely age well. 2012-11-23
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Gorm (89) - sandnes, NORWAY - FEB 23, 2013

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 mathieuc (275) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 16, 2013
Aroma: roasted grains, grains, malt sweetness. Appearance: Black but less opacity than expected. Taste is sweet with some roasted malt harshness. Flavors of burnt grains but not ashy. Carbonated but only minimaly so. Overall a nice stout, nothing too aggressive. I’d be really curious to try some of the BA variations now.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Xstream (95) - - FEB 16, 2013
appearance: Pitch black, mocca head. Not much retention.
smell: Roasted coffee, chocolate and red fruit. Black currant or something like that. Can’t really define it.
taste: Quite a taste sensation going on. It starts off with a mellow milk chocolate and red fruits combo, followed by brown sugar and then coffee and dark bitter chocolate kicks in, leaving a quite bitter coffee like aftertaste. It lingers nicely like a coffee does together with some black currant flavor, but is quite heavy. So not really your day to day type of drink. Take your time ;)
mouthfeel: Quite fluid and creamy, with a nice tingly carbonation finish. Quite thin considering the huge flavors. Which is a good combination.
overall: a very nice, but different, beer. It’s well balanced, but quite defined and powerful. I’s not the easiest beer to drink. So make sure you’re in the mood and not in a hurry and o my, what a drink it is :)
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Jimthechap (1195) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - FEB 13, 2013
This was remarkably lively as upon opening it began to surge up the neck of the bottle and I was just able to get to the glass in time. I probably shouldn’t have shaken it vigorously first (this is a joke, and I agree, not a very good one). So it sits in the glass with a huge, pillowy darkish cream coloured head. The body is dark with quite plain port and Bordeaux colours shining through. I immediately got whiffs of chocolate and dark licorice when I opened the bottle, but have yet to take a good sniff. There’s plenty of this upon closer inspection along with dark dessert fruits - figs, dates and plum pudding. There is also dusty dark finely grated chocolate, cardamon and maybe a touch of mace to the aroma? This beer reward the nose that inspects it. It is thick and creamy in the mouth with powerfully fluffy mouthfeel and then the surge of flavours, as detailed in the aroma, are accompanied by slightly burnt toast. This isn’t off-putting at all, in fat it accompanies the dusty spices and cocoa quite nicely. There is a rich red wine note toward the finish that is not quite lip-smacking, but is certainly interesting.
I’m not sure I can tie this rating to a fond memory of an ex-girlfriend or a starlet that I’ve been in love with for years and I apologise. This is a VERY worthy beer.
Actually, one does leap to mind, but that’s one for me to enjoy in the privacy of senile decrepitude and a balloon of brandy in future.
