750 ml bottle shared at WeeHeavySD’s 2000th rate tasting thanks to toncatcher. Pretty dark with a decent head. Roasted malts and some dark chocolate in the aromas. Flavors were similar with a more bitter flavor and a rather hoppy character. Pretty darn good.

750mL bottle, courtesy of toncatcher. Thanks, Dennis! Pours a dense, murky, dark chocolate-brown color; light-tan head with fine-bubbled lacing. Loads of dark bitter chocolate, dense roasted and chocolate malts in the aroma; nicely toasty. Lively carbonation. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: tons of chewy dark chocoalte, roasted / burnt malts, and oily coffee and chocolate throughout; intense, bitter, chewy chocolate core; solid impy stout. Lengthy finish: bitter coffee, chocolate, and roasted malts.

[on tap at EBF 2008] Potent dark malt bubblegum aroma with generous raisin and plum and some tobacco. Also perceptible citrus and pine hops in the nose. Thick, black-brown with wisps and ring. Excellent, almost vinous, roasted malt and coffee flavour with all the bitterness coming from dark malts. Notes of oxidized molasses and grain. Full body, moderate carbonation, a little dark malt bitter finish.

Sample from a barrel at EBF 08 – 11.9% ABV. Pitch black body. No head. Smell of vanilla sweetness and anise. Well blended taste of cocoa and chocolate malts, partly counterbalanced by bitter coffee beans. Velvet in the mouth. Strong and full bodied. Great stuff (12.09.2008).
