750 shared at Derek’s Tasting. Pours a murky blackish brown edged hue, small offwhite lacing. Aromas are rich cocoa and toffee, some coffee, rich roasty and sweet malt body. Big coffee and roast presence, sweet malts. Initial is roasty and coffee, touches of sweet caramel, toffee. Sweeter, roast, toast and biscuits. Sweeter, roasty, good balance and body. A nice beer, firm and flavorful with some big roasty notes, underlying fudge and toffee. Solid

Black and without a top. this smells good, sweet, roasty and lemon. The awkward nose promises things to come, so the taste, first up was lemon, then the smoke (being bitter and chocolate all the way). But what was disturbing was the grapefruit-celery note that hits after. The first part of this beer is good but the ending taste is weird, unpleasantly wind’s itself towards the end, but not totally unlikeable. The beer is also rather oily, complex and a mouthful. Good but difficult.

On tap at Le Fine Mousse, Paris 11th June 2013. Pours deep black, quite a head on it, aroma is typical imperial stout, lots of coffee, leather, you get some Belgian yeast. Really good and satisfying

330 ml bottle into tulip glass; bottled on 4/8/2011, bottle 1671. Pours dense pitch black color with a nice 1-2 finger dense dark tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass. Got a few gel chunks from the bottom in there too. Aromas of huge dark chocolate, char, roasted malt, coffee, smoke, molasses, raisin, and roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roasted and dark malt notes. Taste of huge dark chocolate, roasted malt, char, toast, coffee, smoke, floral, molasses, vanilla, raisin, and roasted earthiness. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, roasted malt, toast, char, coffee, smoke, molasses, raisin, vanilla, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of deep roasted flavors with moderate dark malt sweetness; and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and chalky mouthfeel that is fantastic. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an incredible imperial stout! Big complexity and balance of roasted and dark malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on. An extremely enjoyable offering.

Bottle, 330 ml, at home. Poured into a snifter. ABV 10% I had yesterday the Hel en Verdoemenis 666 which was a truly amazing beer, let’s see this one. Again, totally black colour as it sits in my glass, with two fingers of brown head, with very good retention this time and light lacing left behind. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, mocca, notable alcohol after a couple deep inhales. Taste of roasted malts, dark strong coffee, some vanilla notes, alcohol again but actually it helps intensify all the flavours, some dark fruits appearing too as the beer warms up. Thick body (but not as thick as the 666), good amounts of carbonation and a fairly dry palate. Overall another great beer from De Molen, very tasty and very drinkable to the point i want to drink it in big gulps but then I think about the 10% alcohol.

Very dark brown, almost black, small dark brown head. Toasty nose, dusty chocolate, coffee, roast, malt. Acidic taste with espresso, roast, malts, peat hints, dark chocolate, roasty mildly bitter finish with warm booze. Oily mouthfeel, flat carbonation, medium body, which is surprisingly thin in the middle of the taste.

Small bottle. Pours a deep dark body with almost no head. Aroma has coffee, dark chocolate, some mild hops. Mouthfeel is just flat, even for an Imperial Stout. Taste has plenty of espresso and dark chocolate but there’s no carbonation to make it live. As a result of that it feels very smooth in mouth but also really similar to a cup of cold and stale coffee. I wanted to like this.

2012 Bottle from kbudd19, thanks Kevin!! Aroma has great notes of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts, smoke, vanilla, molasses. Black hue with a tiny light tan head that mostly diminished and left a little lace. Flavor is very sweet and bitter. Palate is full bodied and watery with a very soft carbonation. Overall a very good RIS with a great nose. I would’ve liked more carbonation and a bigger mouth-feel but it’s still delicious.

The head is medium, the body black. It smells sour, roasty, caramel-sour, darkmalty. The taste is darkmalty, roasty, sour, special, caramel, intensive. 11/12/11/12/11/10
