Draught @ 5th Borefts Beer Festival 2013, Brouwerij de Molen, Bodegraven, Netherlands.

Clear dark black - red brown color with a small, fizzy, fully diminishing, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolae, coffee, dusty coffee. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, lovely coffee, dark roasted and chocolate. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. [20130927]

Pours an unclear coffee brown color. Aroma is lots of coffee, some toffee and some cacao. Taste is espresso, mocca, alcohol. Low carbonation and very tasty! Loving this. Aftertaste is bitter, like strong coffee. Great beer!

> The most bitter H&V variant yet

[ Bottle ][ Etre Gourmet ][ 33cl ][ Pizza Boy Snifter ][ $20 ][ 2/26/14 ]
>> Clear deep sepia pour with thicker, healthy tan foam. Red highlights. Okay retention, spotty lacing. Thank god it is carbonated. Nose is slightly green, lots of tar, flashes of mint, big coffee. Taste is the bitter H&V I’ve ever had- aggressive pine, some mint, In palate, very light lactic acidity, no lemon, no paper. Mouthfeel is medium, a bit thinner compared to other H&V’s but the intense hoppiness makes up for it. No sugar at all, sort of surprising.

<!> slightly thin

33cl bottle served in a snifter. Pitch black brew with a short brown hed with medium retention. Aroma is strong on the coffee with a little dark chocolate and roasted malts. In my opinion the flavour of the regular H&V is better. This version has a lot of coffee in it. Normally I like this, but in this brew it conceals the other great characteristics of H&V, such as the dark chocolate and the roastyness. In my opinion it’s just too much flavour for one beer and not that balanced. For me it was a little disappointing. I love H&V and Kopi Louwak and expected an uber combo. Still a good beer though :)
