4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma: Lots of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts.
Appearance: Black, tan half-finger head.
Taste: Medium to heavy sweet, light bitter, very complex.
Palate: Full body, creamy slick texture, soft carbonation, long sweet and roasty finish.
Overall: Very well balanced, very tasty, basically almost the same as original version which I prefer a bit more. Anyway I sympathize with their decision to stop producing this beer because of "kopi loewak" case.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: SEP 27, 2015 The reason of celebrating my 1000th rate with this beer is that the regular Hel & Verdoemenis is my No.1 beer so far with 4.6 score (together with Kaapse Bea and BrewDog/Mikkeller I hardcore you), and because this beer was brewed specially for the Borefts Festival in 2013 which was my first beer festival, my entry to the craft beer world and the beginning of rating beers. So thank you De Molen, you deserve my respect.:) And thank you Balazs for inviting me there, explaining a lot about beer, and making me addicted.:)
33cl bottle at home from de Molen beer shop, Bodegraven, poured into Borefts 2013 festival glass. Body is pitch black, head is medium, beige, medium lasting, good lacing. Nose is dark roasted coffee, toast and hint of herb liqueur. Flavor is more coffee, coal, roasted peanuts, toast, tons of dark chocolate. Some ash comes to the foreground, then more dark(er) chocolate, more dark roasted coffee, toast again now with more bread profile, light herbs, vanilla and of course licorice. Taste is light sweetness which may be more but probably covered with the tons of roasty heavy bitterness, and a hint of coffeeish sourness is also present.
Finish is long lasting roasty heavy bitter, which is quite simple but perfect. Alcohol is completely hidden at the beginnig, later light alcohol warmth appears.
Full body, oily and sticky texture, soft carbonation.
Quite easy dessert beer which is great for an ABV 10% brew. Very strong flavor, tasty, perfect balance. I can’t compare it with the regular Hel & Verdoemenis but that may be just as good as this one. I’m glad that I’ve chosen this for my 1000th rating.
