Draft at BBF 2011. Nearly black, scant brown head. Aroma of burnt coffee, dark milk chocolate, vanilla. Taste has dates, raisins, chocolate. Nice.

33cl bottle - thanks to Kamiel. Midnight black with almost no head, just a wisp of a mocha ring around the outside of the glass. Initial aroma makes me say wow: great combination of bittersweet chocolate, vanilla, coffee, light peat, some oak, and light alcohol. Low carbonation, moderate body, somewhat sweet with a slight tang and alcohol undertone, becomes a little syrupy on the finish, lots of alcohol, chocolate, and scotch. A very tasty take on a what is a good beer to begin with.

Thanks to Ibrew2or3 for the share! Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma has scotch, fudge and coffee leading the way. Taste is sweet with some roast and a bit of alcohol. Medium bodied and oily. A luscious beer. Really tasty. Thanks Dave!

Big thanks to Baron for providing this longtime want. Pours a dense, omnious black in color with no head. Nose is extremely rich chocolate, some gentle booze, malt, caramel, and a little oak. Flavor is similar to the nose, it is rich chocolate, oak, and malt. The barrel character is all but lost in the flavor profile. Mouthfeel is thicker with some moderate booziness, light carbonation, and a long finish. Not a bad barrel aged stout, but I really wish there would be more barrel character here. We had this side by side with the base beer and that beer was absolutely god awful. This is a much better effort but I’m left wishing the barrel would influence the end product more.

Picked up at De Molen. Pours deep dark mahogany with tan looking head. The aroma started off holy hell GOOD with fresh packed chocolate fudge brownie followed closely by burnt toffee (I love that), some smooth oak wood and a bit of subtle smooth whiskey. Wow! Great mix of aromatics. The taste delivers dark roasted malts, burnt malts, chocolate fudge brownie goodness and dark chocolate bar. It then runs into some smooth oak and then fairly smooth peaty Scotch boozy whiskey. This achieves a great balance of the delicious base beer this is (the base beer seems even better than I remember, maybe this treatment has enhanced it) and the barrel treatment.

Bottle, thanks to Jeffo, 03/29/2012. The bottle is filled to the brim and pours thick black, almost no head but decent lacing rings the glass, persistent haze on the surface. In the aroma, dark bitter cocoa chocolate fudge with great depth, espresso roast, and rounded with a spicy whiskey spiciness that compliments well. Flavor is big on chocolate, a bit lighter than the aroma with a touch of vanilla, not overly sweet, balanced by espresso roast, mild caramel and whiskey bitterness. Palate is low on carbonation but full and smooth without becoming overly thick. The barrel treatment adds nice subtle accents to the base, does not overpower, resulting in an elegant, balanced treatment of H&V. Really nice.

Bottle split amongst friends. Dark oily pour, jet black. Aroma is full of bourbon flavors mixed with dark chocolate. Easy to sip on. Glad I was able to try this one.

Bottle. Very dark brown, no head. Moderate to full, malty and sweetish aroma, roasted malt and coffee and some salty licorice, light oak - whisky. Body is medium to full, malty and sweet flavor, lots of coffee with roasted malt and light licorice, light oak, faint alcohol. Finish is average to long, malty and sweetish, lots of coffee and lots of roasted some burnt malt, light licorice and light alcohol, light oak and some hoppy bitterness. Nice burnt - roasted IS with light oak/vanilla, bit too much coffee - bit too sweet.

Bottled, at tasting at _angst_. Dark black, small beige head. Intense coffee aroma. Dryish and full bodied with soft mouthfeel. Loads of coffee with just a tingle of Highland whisky. Warming, mid-bitter finish. Surprisingly relaxed with a focus on coffee. Really nice!

330 ml bottle bought @ Bierkompass.de. Shared at epic tasting on February 11. Pours oily black with a pale brown head that slowly dissipates while leaving some lacing on the glass. Smell is sweet with roasted malts, quality chocolate, wood and hints of smoke and coffee. Taste is sweet and slightly bitter with roasted malts, bitter chocolate, whisky, wood, vanilla, liquorice fudge and hints of coffee. Mouthfeel is full-bodied and creamy. Finish is sweet and bitter with roasted malts and chocolate.
