Pour pitch black, with no head. Aroma of burnedness, coffee, chocolate, a bit of Dark fruits. And then a whole lot of barrel. A nice long aftertaste of roasted coffee. Medium to semi-full body, with very little CO2. Really nice, no doubt.

Bottle 1159 of 2483. Heavy cocoa, vanilla, and roasted coffee along with sugar cane and red wine in the nose. Big dose of dark Godiva chocolate, split vanilla bean, alcohol, and molasses. Limited carbonation but the mouthfeel doesn’t disappoint. Warms the belly. Tasty!

Pitch black, tiny brown head, flat and very viscous. Aroma is spicy, chocolatey, oaky, roasty, vanilla, very sweet and complex, with some fainter coffee and whisky. The aroma is so rich it’s almost fattening. For me this beer tastes a bit like a tiramisu; chocolate, coffee and rich, dark alcohol. Any dry, roasty flavours are almost drowned out by the sweetness, though there is a bit of a coffeeish, though very chocolatey aftertaste. But throughout there is a bitter, refreshing tartness. Lovely, smooth mouthfeel. A really complex and fascinating beer. The only reason i didn’t give this a 9 or 10 is because it’s a bit too sweet for me.

Pours pitch black colour with no head. Aroma of liquorice, salmiac, syrup, soy and some chocolate. Flavour of salmiac, syrup and chocolate. Much like Beer Here Essentia Bina but the syrupy sweetness is much stronger.

Bottle # 470 brewed in 2009 that was unexpected surprise to say least, served in my Stone IRS snifter: Basically pitch black with minimal head nor lace, lots of oily tears however. The aroma has an big bourbon overtone of vanilla, oak, char, and booze along with heavy roast, chocolate, tar, leather, pipe tobacco, molasses, pepper, anise, soy sauce saltiness and moderate cardboardy oxidization.

The taste starts with brash bourbon character, some dark fruits and liquorice twang along with more than a fair amount of dark malts. Some bakers chocolate and even peaty earthy undertones before a hint of resiny bitters and espresso appear about the finish. The alcohol is in your face and does overpower the base stout flavors a tad bit too much for my liking. However it is not medicinal and could age out for even more mellow flavor but I worry the oxidation that already appears will grow even stronger. The mouth feel is oily, slick and sticky with a generous amount of alcohol warming. Overall a good brew, while noticeable bourbon throws it off kilter, it is also not a straight bourbon bomb. I would drink again if given another chance. Thanks Shawn
