3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JAN 22, 2014 Refrigerated 11.2 oz. brown bottle, says ale aged in bourbon barrels, poured into a snifter. Pours black with dark brown highlights and very small beige head. Aroma is nice bourbon, medium/thick body, low/no carbonation, and very little lacing. Taste is roasty, bourbon, some ash, some dark chocolate, some soy sauce, and some alcohol. Heavy, hard to drink, wouldn’t go out of my way to have again.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
33cl bottle with red waxed cap, Jan-13 vintage. It pours a deep black with almost no head to speak of. Just a small ring of brown bubbles. Smell is quite sweet and liqueurish, with bold notes of dark chocolate, port wine, liqueur an mild roasted coffee beans. Taste is on the sweet side, complex and bold with dark chocolate, hazelnuts, vanilla, slight roasted coffee and wood. More whisky notes. Leaves a clear note of cocoa powder in the finish. Bold mouthfeel with creamy texture. Overall, very good with well integrated notes of whisky, albeit still a tad sweet.

Bottle from a friend. Boozy smell with a strong alcoholic warmth. Sweet taste with caramel, chocolate and very light notes from the barrel aging. The taste isn’t as boozy as the taste. Almost no carbonation.

Pours a pitch black beer with a not very long lasting brown head. Smells incredible. Heavy chocolate, vanilla, some fruity and alcohol. Tastes vanilla, smooth, chocolate and coffee. Average carbo, medium body and a sticky texture. Just an incredible brew.

Bottle. 12.0%. Bottled June 08 2010. Bottle no. 21. Pours almost black. No head. Dusty, sweetish aroma. Dark fruits, malt. Hints of vanilla and wood as it warms. Flavour is sweetish and roasted with notes of coffee and dark fruits. Finish is almost sugary, with dark fruits, cold coffee and a hint of tobacco smoke. Has an alcohol burn, but not matching the high %; well-balanced. Overall good; flavour is better than aroma. Would have been nice with a head. 15.12.13.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a frightening black void with a small brown head. Aroma of plum, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, raisins, bourbon. Thick oily mouthfeel. I’ve had better BA’s, but still this is a great brew.

Sample at Hel en Verdoemenis tasting
Tasted a fresh one from 2013 and an aged one from 2009. I’ll use the fresh one for the ratings score. Aroma is bourbon, after eight, vanilla and wood. Taste also has some roasted malts and coffee. Medium dry. Full body, nice soft carbonation.
The aged version is very portlike and very smooth, great beer for aging!

Not the best de molen IRS I had but still very good. Choclate and espresso dominate in the flavor and the bourbon is very much present.
