Backlog. Bottle nr. 767. Tried this right when they came from the brewery, the bottles were definitely too young and overpowering, this is a beer for aging.

One year old bottle. Deep dark brown almost black if bit for a slight red tint and almost no head to speak of. Deep smell of malt, with lots of black roast, coffee and burnt malt. The smell of oak and bourbon is clearly present but softened by the clear chocolate. Medium to full oily body. The alcohol is present but already subdued. Dark bitter chocolate, berry, and soft roast that finished with some alcohol warmness, vanilla, caramel, and lots of roasted malt. Leaving the mouth as if I just had a shot.

Bottle @ tasting, courtesy of Zer0. Pours a pitch black beer with a small beige head. Aroma is fresh bourbon, boozy notes and caramel. Not too much extraordinary in the aroma going on. Flavor is fairly bitter, dark sugar and caramel going on. Bourbon is definitely noticed in the flavor, giving some sweetness. Mouthfeel is cloying, thick. Very nice variation.

Bottle shared at mrhangover’s place at his epic Eclipse tasting. Pours very dark brown with a brown head. Aroma is bourbon, chocolate, coffee, vanilla and licorice. Well balanced. Heavy bitter and moderate to heavy sweet. Very good.

330ml bottle, pours black with a small off white head. Rich and smooth chocolate, nougat, textures from the bourbon, velvet mouth feel. Finish is sweet and short. Full bodied and low carbonation. Hides alcohol well, lovely sipper.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2014 Refrigerated 11.2 oz. brown bottle, says ale aged in bourbon barrels, poured into a snifter. Pours black with dark brown highlights and very small beige head. Aroma is nice bourbon, medium/thick body, low/no carbonation, and very little lacing. Taste is roasty, bourbon, some ash, some dark chocolate, some soy sauce, and some alcohol. Heavy, hard to drink, wouldn’t go out of my way to have again.

33cl bottle with red waxed cap, Jan-13 vintage. It pours a deep black with almost no head to speak of. Just a small ring of brown bubbles. Smell is quite sweet and liqueurish, with bold notes of dark chocolate, port wine, liqueur an mild roasted coffee beans. Taste is on the sweet side, complex and bold with dark chocolate, hazelnuts, vanilla, slight roasted coffee and wood. More whisky notes. Leaves a clear note of cocoa powder in the finish. Bold mouthfeel with creamy texture. Overall, very good with well integrated notes of whisky, albeit still a tad sweet.
