Bottle bought @ bierkompass.de. Pours blackish chocolate brown with a small bubbly mocha head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is sweet and boozy tingling with roasted malts, high quality dark chocolate, brown sugar sweetened dark roast coffee, vanilla fudge, burnt caramel, bourbon, charred wood, hay, liquorice fudge, oatmeal cookies, moist soil and hints of coconut milk. Taste is slightly sweet, bitter and malty with heavily roasted malts, dark roast coffee, bourbon, charred wood, dark roast coffee, moist soil, coconut milk, prominent bourbon alcohol, grass, vanilla fudge, burnt caramel. minerals and hints of chocolate milk and liquorice fudge. Mouthfeel is soft, round, boozy, tiny silky and medium to full bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, bitter and amlty with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, bourbon, vanilla fudge, roasted nuts, burnt caramel, hay, charred wood and hints of mint. Tasty but stingingly boozy and might need some time to mellow out.

Bottle (330 ml). As Misto bourbon barrel aged. Shared by Minderbinder, thanks! Dark reddish brown with a small beige head, low retention and little to no lacing. Aroma is of fudge along with caramel, port notes, roasted malt, molasses, raisins, vanilla, alcohol and bourbon. Taste is moderately sweet with, again, a lot of fudge along with molasses, raisins, bourbon, alcohol, vanilla, fruits, and oak. Light alcohol warming. Full bodied. Low carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel. Good bourbon barrel Imperial Stout. The barrel isn’t overpowering. My least favorite Hel & Verdoemenis declension up to now, but still a pretty good beer. I think it will better with a year or two on it.

Bottle, 2013 edition (bourbon barrel aged). Pours opaque black with a medium dark brown creamy head that slowly dissipates with nice lacing. Aroma is roasty, cocoa powder, tobacco, did I say roasty? Just a touch of bourbon, surprisingly light, actually. Flavor is the same, lightly sweet and pushing medium bitter, very smooth but again with a very light barrel presence, with notes of bourbon and wood providing a little more than highlights to the base stout. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. Nice.

Bottle, bottled in January 2013. Black with a medium sized creamy beige head. Sweet chocolate, vanilla and bourbon in the nose. Same things in the flavour with some light burnt/charcoal notes. Fat and creamy texture. Sweet with some light roasted bitterness, but overall sweet and sticky. Good stuff when in the mood for sweet and heavy.

Strong black beer. Tones of dark roasted coffee and pure cacao. Bourbon leaves a long glowing aftertaste. Simply delicious.
