UPDATED: AUG 10, 2012 Draught at de Molen. Great aroma of whiskey, cocoa, vanilla, dates. Lots of bourbon apparent in the taste. Overall good stuff. Would like to compare to the bottled version laid down for a few years. 4.3 Bottle #1624 courtesy of Holy, thanks for fulfilling my wish. Brewed July 2009, bottled June 2010, consumed August 2012. Pretty much black, coaxable large bubble head that settles quickly. Aroma is somewhat more subtle and subdued. Tasty is ceamy coffee, espresso and caramel liqueuer covered with chocolate and vanilla. Aroma is now a 9 and taste is a 10. Definitely worth the wait! 4.4

Black color with brownish creamy head. Nice aroma, roasted malt, cardboard, tobacco, coffee, hint of Bourbon, alcohol. Thick body, round mouthfeel; it has an excellent flavor of roasted malt and dark chocolate, revealing all the skills of De Molen with dark malts; it has a moderate sweetness that well balances the strong bitterness; the flavor is completed by the presence of leather, tobacco, chocolate cookies and light Bourbon vanilla; the final is warming, with some alcohol, but less complex.

Bottle at home in London with Paul. Vintage 2010. Pours oily black with a small, bubbly beige head. Definitely some hard alcohol notes in the nose, a bit of sweet smoke, wood, light vanilla. Big sweet flavor, sweet bourbon, burnt dark chocolate, vanilla, alcohol, some moss. Full bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Some heat in the finish, dark sugar, brownies, vanilla, bourbon, licks of licorice, hints of tobacco. Very solid beer. Complex to the max.

Bottle thanks to Fin. Cheers my friend. Thanks so much. Black and thin tan head. Looking forward to this as Menno produces some of the best strong stouts in the world. Lovely intense dark choc and espresso coffee aroma with relatively subtle bourbon barrel aroma. Vanilla and wood definitely present though. I must admit, I do prefer something maybe more subtle as I’m not the world’s biggest Bourbon fan. In the mouth is an explosion of flavour. I mean the intense bitter dark choc finish is exquisite, simply exquisite. Smooth and full in mouth, even with some full milk stout lactic qualities. Bourbon clearly carries through the beer, but I enjoy the mouthfeel very much and the rich aggressive roast finish really is very special. The choc is absolutely gorgeous. Touch of heat on the finish. Really rather fabulous. Will be interesting to see how this develops over the years.

Bottle at home, from Cotteridge Wines, 14/07/13. Mid black, thin tan film that retains well. Nose is roast malt, brown sugar, light booze, chocolate, oaky, vanilla, toffee fudge. Taste comprises dark malts, light roastyness, chocolate, demerara sugars, toffee fudge, subtle bourbon notes giving a nice boozey taste but by no means overhwelming. Full bodied, fine carbonation, smooth and caressing to the palate. Great stuff, the best Impy I’ve had in a while - will buy up more of these given the chance. The alcohol is hardly noticeable, the mouth feel pitched perfectly making it dangerousuly drinkable.

Bottle. An oily pour leaves a black beer topped by a small, tan head. It’s heavy on the nose, vanilla, oak and alcohol in the back, with coffee, roasted and burnt malts doing most of the work. Quite vinous. Alcohol too of course, it’s a strong beer. The flavor is sweet, but not too sweet, and quite complex with the barrels leaving oak, vanilla and alcohol, and the malts roasted flavors and coffee. Some alcohol wamth in the mouth, full-bodied and oily. Chocolate, coffee, red wine and vanilla in the finish. A lovely one. 110107

Tnx bierkoning! Dark opaque brown color, tiny brown head. Strong aroma of bourbon: oak and vanilla with notes of licorice. Full-bodied. Flavor is roasted with licorice then lots of vanilla and bourbon. Slick thick palate. Quite standard barrel aged beer but well-made and base beer is excellent for doing barrel ageing. This is actually quite similar to Kaggen, but not as sophisticated.
