4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
11.2 oz bottle.
A: Pitch black with a very faint mocha head. Has great legs, though.
N: Rich mocha/dark chocolate covered espresso bean. Heavy amounts of vanilla/caramel/bourbon/oak. Some dark fruit.
T: Lots of bourbon. Quite sweet with oak acting as balance. Some moderate bitterness.
M: Oily, and medium-heavy body. Alcohol is very well-hidden.
O: This is far better than the regular version. It really is just about everything you’d want in a barrel aged stout. Plenty of flavor showing through, everything in coordination...I wish this didn’t cost so much or I’d buy a case.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: SEP 4, 2013 Bottled 33cl. A huge amount of vanilla throughout. Full bodied. Hints of aniseed. Remarkably smooth. Pronounced warming sensation on the swallow which leads to a dry peppery briny finish, reminiscent of vanilla, nasturtium and cocoa powder. Wonderful.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A dark brown to black colored beer. The downside of this beer is the foam, because there is none. But the smell makes up for that, it is amazing. In the smell there is coffee, alcohol, bourbon, wood chips, some hop and yeast. It is full bodied beer, with a low carbonating. It is a soft and silky beer, where the alcohol is very present. In the taste there is first coffee bitter, but it evolves to Milk chocolate. Further in the taste there is Bourbon and wood chips. The aftertaste is very pleasent, soft stays long enough. It is dark chocolat and light bitter. A very special beer!!

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Better than many one of my new top ten. Most would overlook this unassuming black and white bottle and that is unfortunate. More like this please. Malt, chocolate, coffee, winter spice, dries fruit, black licorice, smoke, whiskey, phenol, nice mouthfeel. This one has everything.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Pitch black with a small tan head. Roast and chocolate nose, almost nutty. Flavor is quite bitter from roasted malt, nutty, lots of bourbon character: wood, char, cherry. This is a sneaky beer. I wasn’t initially impressed because i was focused on the beer aspect which is fairly standard stout. What is great about this though is how precisely it evokes the whiskey without being overpowering or hot.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle. Pours pitch black with almost no head. Aroma is chocolate, bourbon, coffee and vanilla bean. Taste has strong bourbon barrel and boozy notes but they’re really well folded in. Lots of chocolate and vanilla notes as well. Palate is smooth and full but not overwhelming. This is one of the better ones.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
33cL bottle, courtesy of blomster. Thanks!! Pours a deep, dark cola-brown color; thin, medium-tan head with fine lacing. Lots of vinous warmth and rich dried fruitiness in the nose; bitter chocolate, roast, and barrel complexity arrive in the middle onward; S’more-like. Light but prickly carbonation works well here, adding some lift to layers of dried dark fruits (figs, dates), caramel, and warming red fruitiness; some of the candied richness suggests barley wine; a small bombshell of a sipper.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Nip from the web. Pours jet black with a thin creamy dark tan head. Big bourbon dark chocolate milk chocolate nose. Roasty and beautifully complex. Thick sticky heavy body. Soft carb. Chocolates, vanilla, balanced sweetness and dryness, so harmonious--luscious mid palate. Long chocolatey finish. Spectacular.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz. bottle from Star Grocery. It pours black with a slowly building and quickly receding tan head. The aroma is straight up dark chocolate brownies with pralines, wood and a touch of vanilla. The flavor is similar… more roast and charred wood, but dark chocolate and brownies are there in abundance. Alcohol is definitely noticeable especially in the finish. Lower carbonation. A nice dessert drink.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, 2013 version. Black with a small light tan head. Aroma of mocha, burnt caramel, bubblegum, vanilla, sherry. Smooth, somewhat syrupy mouthfeel, low carbonation. Only hints of bourbon in the aroma, but lots in the taste - bubblegum, caramel, vanilla essence, oak. Never really been a fan. There’s some mocha, nuts, oranges and spices underneath but the beer is thoroughly sidelined by the bourbon. Wood and soy with struggling bitterness at the end. OK, but nothing like as good as the ordinary version.
