2013 11.2-oz bottle. The scent of thick fudge and molasses wafts up from the snifter with some black licorice bite in the background and a hint of aged bourbon and cherries. Flat black pour with a light tan ring and lacing. Dark chocolate brownies dominate the taste with very mellow, subtle bourbon, a bit of dry oak and vanilla, and a semi-sweet milk chocolate finish. Medium body that is a bit watery and is much lighter than a typical imperial stout; very smooth mouthfeel. Overall, the beerís decadent taste is quite good but could benefit from a more pronounced whiskey flavor, and the weak body doesnít do it any favors. Still, itís a decent brew.

(backlog) Bottle. Black pour with sparse head. Chocolate, roasted, vanilla, whiskey and dark malt aromas. Finish is nice but has a bit of etoh. Flavor follow dark and sweet.

SHIG (3587) - Wasilla, Alaska, USA - MAY 18, 2014
Bottle at Culmination Fest: Poured a thick black oil with brown head. Aroma is strong bourbon, vanilla, and sweet stickiness. The taste was similar with strong bourbon alcohol burn, notes of vanilla, and silky chocolate. The finish was dry. Highlight of the fest and I finished with a second at last call!

Bottle at home, 11%. Pours deep dark brown with a dark ruby edge. Aroma is light meatiness, light soy, bovril, marmite, some treacly sweetness. Itís fairly subtle and light, but great. Full body, medium carbonation. Sweet, sticky with some meatiness, chocolate, coffee, treacle, vanilla, wood, booze, a little grass in the background... Itís really good. Balance is bang on. Very nice.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a black color with an average frothy brown head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted chocolate, coffee, vanilla wood, and bourbon alcohol aroma. Moderate to heavy dark sweet toasted malt flavor with a Moderate to heavy dark sweet and small alcohol bite finish of long duration. Copious body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a standout beer.

Pours near black with a trim espresso head. Little carbonation as it poured from the bottle. Aroma is chocolate, bourbon, vanilla. Taste is semi-sweet with a little roast bitterness and char. Thinner bodied and slick. Smooth and pretty easy drinking. This one tastes like its been aged for awhile. Its certainly smooth, but lack real depth. Still, its good.

Cherry cough syrup aroma. Complex flavor, nice bourbon. Doesn't taste cough syrup. Bourbon gives a nice sweet flavor without any feeling of actual sugar. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours totally black with an almost non existent head. Aroma is malt, roastiness, chocolate, coffee, caramel, whisky, oak and woody notes. Taste is high sweet leading to a big, woody and bourbon finish. Excellent.
