4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Tasted as Hel & Verdoemenis Wild Turkey Barrel Aged, weighin in at 13% ABV and not 11% as indicated here, so Iím not sure it is entirely the same thing. Thin, beige head on a totally black robe. Powerful, exciting aroma of toasted bread, bourbon, coffee beans, vanilla, oak, liquorice and bitter chocolate. Earthy, intensely roasted taste with sweetish vanilla tones, probably coming from the oak, elegant and powerful at the same time, thick oily mouthfeel, long roasted bitter finish with pleasantly warming, never astringent alcohol. Another variation on the theme and again a masterpiece.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pour is dark brown with dark tan head. Nose is pretty balanced with nice bourbon notes, faint peat and wood notes. Some roasted malt notes and hints of dark chocolate. Taste has much more peat and some interesting yeast notes. More malt complexity and and depth but a bit of sweetness through the finish. Milky chocolate and light roasted malt with brown sugar and malt sugar left over. Medium body with a creamy feel and softer carbonation.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
2013 Bottle courtesy of Alex. Huge Thanks!!! This is bliss. Pours motor oil thick and black into a glass with a slight residual head that does not last. Aroma is dark chocolate, dark roast, and has a strong alcohol note on the back end. Medium to medium heavy mouthfeel. Flavor is fantastic. Upfront booze, then some bittersweet chocolate, coffee notes, char, a little dense caramel coming through and finishes with a boozy chocolate pudding note that is amazing. I could drink this forever. HUGE thanks for this bottle. It blew me away.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
11.2 oz bottled Jan 2013, Bourbon version. Black with tan froth. Nose is licorice, dark chocolate, prune and wood with hints of smoke and bourbon. Silky body with a sexy tingle. The normal brash bite of H&V is tamed by the barrel. Taste perfectly melds the chocolate and bourbon. Dark fruit, caramel and vanilla; like the best boozy chocolate truffle youíve ever had.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Toft Vin - 18/07/14.
I guess this is it, even though the label only mentions the bourbon aging, no specific kind. Red wax sealing.
Poured down the middle, shows a nice inch-thick, quickly fading foam - brown and bubbly. Black with red edges. Aroma escapes the glass way before I even approach it; I almost get a barleywine sort of sweetness and dried fruitiness, coated in chocolaty bourbon. Putting my nose into the tulip the bourbon overshadows most, but I get a very dense, compact and full aroma that tells me something merged nicely in this one. First sip is velvety and smooth, very sweet and chocolaty, the bourbon almost too dominant, but I kind of like that. Lots of alcohol, but again in a nice imperial stout kind of way: the heat lingers on the palate - as it should in an 11% stout. I like it. Itís not the plate reinvented, it doesnít go super deep or crazy, but itís a solid, creamy, smooth imperial stout and the barrel aging really provided with some good finish. Well done!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours an opaque brownish black from the bottle with thin ring of tan head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of whiskey and roasty malt, hint of chocolate, boozy. Taste is like the bourbon county barley wine, roast and sweetness balanced. Big on the boozy bite, like a half and half of whiskey stout. Definitely nice, very intense, but nice.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A - pours opaque cola brown with very little giant bubbled head. S - nice grainy and sweet almost combo of stout and barleywine. Wild turkey it is. Sweet bourbon notes dominate. Lightly grainy, sweet molasses, cereal grains, sour oak, mineral water. Quiet chalky notes, dry chocolate, vanilla, leather, charcoal , leather and orange peel. M - so much lighter than I expected. Light and sweet and somehow still rich. Dry bitter end, low carb, lightly astringent. T - the taste is all wild turkey and cereal grains. Sweet and oaky earthy bourbon. Wheat, sour oak, chalky chocolate, dry potting soil, graham crackers, molasses, orange peel and vanilla. O - this is more barleywine than stout, especially as it warms. Nice but a bit weaker than I'd like.
