4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
33 cl bottle received from the Euro secret santa 3.0. Thanks MrHangover! Pours a slightly see through liquid with a non existant head. Nose is heavy on the booze, I do get some vanilla, toffee and chocolate as well. At first the booziness comes through in the flavour, later it calms down with chocolate, toffee, caramel and biscuits. Nice round mouthfeel. I felt like this could have done slightly better with a more mellow booziness at first. Either way a solid one.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours an average frothy light brown head that fully diminished. Body is black.
Aroma contains loads of stuff: sweet fruits, sour fruits, coffee and chocolate, burnt malts, some cask wood, bourbon of course, and spices.
Flavor shifts slowly and subtlety from light acidic to sweet and finally bitter.
Body is full with creamy texture and lively carbonation.
What a joy to drink! The bourbon is a great addition.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle (330 ml). 2013 vintage. Pitch black with a medium creamy brown heady, medium retention and some lacing. Aroma is of whiskey (really present but surpringly not overwhelming), vanilla, roasted malt, wood, chocolate, light anises notes and hints of fruits. Taste is moderately sweet (not cloying) with roasted malt, whisky, dark chocolate, light peated notes, hints of fruits and citrus, wood, vanilla and warming finish. Full bodied. Rich. Moderate carbonation. Sticky. Dry finish. The whisky finish last long. Really complex. Well balance despite the huge whisky presence. Extremely tasty. I love the Hel & Verdoemenish series!

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a deep burnt umber on the verge of jet black with a two finger khaki foam. The nose is sweet brownie batter soaked bourbon with caramel, peanut, vanilla even a bit of smoked maple. The palate follows the nose nicely with a predominate burnt sweet brownie base that is heightened by complex notes of vanilla, bakers chocolate, bourbon, hint of smoke. Very nice indeed !

On tap Holy Grail, Louisville Kentucky. Bourbon barrel stout is all the rage in Kentucky and the world it seems. And this aged in Wild Turkey Bourbon barrels so it is a hit. Pours very dark brown. Small dark tan head. Good example of the category but no better than Bluegrass brewing Company "Bourbon barrel stout" or Against the Grain brewery, "70X"

Delicious taste, very complex, very alcoholic, with bourbon, dark chocolate, roasty coffee, smoke, liquorice, nuts, dark fruits. Medium, creamy mouthfeel, with little carbonation and finishes alcoholic, astringent, with roast, bitter chocolate, cofffe and some smoke. Brilliant, extreme, dark beer, with complex barell notes.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle at home (02/07/2013). Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, and bourbon. Taste of chocolate, coffee, and sweet bourbon. Beautiful long after taste of dark chocolate and bourbon. Very smooth, hides the alcohol pretty good. Wish my bottle was not empty now..
