4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Pibar, Lausanne, bottled 30 jan 2013
Inpenetrable black, with brownish small sized creamy head. Mild aroma, some roasted malt, cardboard; light bourbon; light animal character too. It has the correct carbonation level, with a round and smooth mouthfeel; the usual excellent use of malt provide a strong flavor of roasted malt and chocolate, with moderate sweetness; the liquorice touch is quite strong, it’s also quite salty; finally some nice notes of vanilla; strong bitterness; faint sourness from the dark malts in the final.
Very good beer, not very cohesive though.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, 33cl. A clear-looking next to black beer with a small, dark beige head. The aroma has roasted malt, some peat and licorice. Bourbon notes. Some dark chocolate and coffee. The flavor is roasted and peaty, with bourbon, coffee grit and some dark dried fruits. Quite boozy on the palate, warming and more or less full-bodied. Low carbonation level. Caramel, peaty, bourbon and roasted malts in the finish. Well, not superb in my book, but it’s drinkable. In small amounts. 140808
