A Mes rate. Bottle at GBBF.
God knows who opened this, I’m guessing it was something to do with the ever generous Fonefan or Menno himself, maybe Alex. I really should have written it down. Thanks whoever it was anyway. Strange that as I get round to putting this in that Sim and I are tucking into a bottle of the regular version at home. Anyway the beer... Similar to the regular in almost every way. A glorious journey of black smoky imperialness. The whisky sits really well with the regular brilliance. The already smoky character comes to the front just that little bit more obviously. I can’t help but feel it takes the shine off the un-peated version just a touch but whatever it’s still a stunner. Sorry guys, crap rate. Good beer.

Sampled at DØE Beerfestival 2009, Valby. Pours a black beer with a lightbrown/orange head. The aroma is smoke, wood and vanilla. The Flavor is very smokey, but still very well balanced. The palate is complex and overall this is a very good beer.

Black color. Very nice Imperial Stout aroma, peaty and lightly phenolic, strong, persistent. Strong body, sweet, with strong caramel chocolate and roasted malt at the end; delicately smoked, some leather, very light tobacco. Gorgeus!

Draught @ Ølfestival Valby - CBF09, Copenhagen, Denmark.
Clear dark black orange color with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, dark roasted, burnt notes, moderate hoppy, smoke - peaty. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to ful, texture is creamy, carbonation is soft. [20090515]

On tap at Copenhagen Beerfestival. A nice-looking beer, the head of decent size and tan color, and the body black with a brownish hue. Peat, whiskey, some coffee and roasted malts, an earthy touch, and alcohol in the aroma. Just lovely, and the flavor slightly better. All things found in the aroma is present in the flavor too, and it has a sweetness that suits the beer very well. Warming, full-bodied and almost sticky in the mouth. Lasting sweet finish with alcohol and roasted malts. Delightful. The barrelling did really good it seems. (090515)

Draught@Københavnske Øldage 2009. Dark brown, almost black with a tiny tan head on top. Delicate, smoked malt aroma. Dark fruit tones and a touch of wood. Taste has a gently sweet and full malt body. Smoke, wood and roastedness blend well in. Also licorice, faint tar and some dark fruits. Full-bodied. Complex, perfectly balanced and well-crafted.

On tap. Pours a completely opaque black with a small beige head. Aroma of hard roasted malt and tar. Quite full-bodied with sweetish hard roasted malt, bitter chocolate, vanilla and a piquante smoky edge from the Bruichladdich Barrel. Discreet bitterness. Very well balanced. 150509

Beige head resting on top of a devil-black body. Smoked aroma with chocolate beneath. Smoked oak flavour added by ingredients like liquorice, cocoa and chocolate followed by lingering bitter endnotes. A bit sweet, but very good indeed (CBF, 15.05.2009).
