UPDATED: JUL 2, 2014 Botella de 33 cl. En beni bar house. Elaborada en 08-12-2011. 12 vol. 108 ibu. Imprescindible repetir.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle 33cl, a dark beer with very low head. Nose is peated, eisbock notes. Aroma is medium sweet, bit astringent, lot of peated notes, concentrated barley and caramel notes, bit of soy sauce, kind of cooked licorice, as it gets warmer the beer has more complexity, grapes, light prunes, excellent smoked notes, fruit skin, tannic. Finish is well peated and with long duration the nose has sky island whisky touch.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at FoCo Stout Tasting 2013, courtesy of Aaron. Thanks man! deep black with a small brown head that quickly dissipated. Big smoke, peaty, light cocoa, coffee, dark fruits, and figs in the aroma. Taste is big smoke, roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, anise, and black licorice. Slick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Really well-balanced beer and the smoke is used perfectly.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: NOV 30, 2013 It’s a bit of an odd one. First of all there’s pretty much no foam. It’s dark brown, near black. Has the aroma of molasses and caramel sweetness with the expected barrel oak, then followed by a little weird mossy barnyard like funkiness. It all comes back in the flavor. It’s still on the good side, has a rich flavor, but doesn’t have that depth finish to balance out the sweetness and give it somewhat more character and depth you’d expect of a barrel aged beer. Maybe it needs more aging. The finish has the funkiness of barnyard and whisky that doesn’t linger as great some other barrel aged beers do. Actually quite bored me halfway. Didn’t finish it.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
A nearly perfect brew. The beer is dark and thick and pours in your glass like oil. The taste is very rich with numerous different aspects battling for attention. Really exceptional.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. 9.5%. Bottle No. 0298. Best before Oct. 34. Pours black. No head. Sweetish, roasted aroma with a hint of vanilla. Notes of bread, wood and light barbecue as it warms; further warming brings out a light oxidation note and a touch of coffee. Smooth. Flavour is sweetish and a bit tart, with roasted and light barbecue notes. Dark fruit notes as it warms. Roasted, dark fruit finish with a lingering grassy note and a mild alcohol burn. No carbonation. Overall very good, but could have done with a head and carbonation. 18.09.13.
