UPDATED: FEB 7, 2010 Black with a brown head. Extremely woody, peated aroma with a old, mature vibe to it. Flavour is a fatass chocolatey imperial stout with addition of mature old wooden tun. The whisky character is very prominent and managess to balance this otherwise rather sweet and creamy beer.

On draft at 1st Borefts Beer Festival, Bodegraven. The last beer i had at the festival and perhaps the best one. This one has everything but still manages to taste perfectly balanced. Oak and peat dominate, malts and chocolate, sweetness with an alcoholic finish. Really, really good.

Tap @ 1st BBF, De Molen. My favorite among the favorites on this festival. Dark chocolate in the aroma with oak, honey and a hint of smoke. Very full bodied, thick, almost viscous mouthfeel. The oak is clearly noticeable in the flavor, just a the peaty smoke. Dark chocolate. The beer is sweet, but there is so much to compensate. Long finish with cream, peaty smoke and pipe tobacco. Magnificent!

Bottle@Home. Wow! Great stuff but you gotta love the whisky. Unbelievable complex yet still easy going. Balanced like jin and jang.

A Mes rate. Bottle at GBBF.
God knows who opened this, I’m guessing it was something to do with the ever generous Fonefan or Menno himself, maybe Alex. I really should have written it down. Thanks whoever it was anyway. Strange that as I get round to putting this in that Sim and I are tucking into a bottle of the regular version at home. Anyway the beer... Similar to the regular in almost every way. A glorious journey of black smoky imperialness. The whisky sits really well with the regular brilliance. The already smoky character comes to the front just that little bit more obviously. I can’t help but feel it takes the shine off the un-peated version just a touch but whatever it’s still a stunner. Sorry guys, crap rate. Good beer.
