4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle dated 12/07/2011. Ginormous gusher, but I got to it in time. Nose is smokey, heavy peat, heavy dark chocolate, surprisingly high hopping levels, lightly salted licorice. Pitch black and particulate filled, Dark brown rocky head will subside sometime by the year 2020. Taste is chewy, strong roast, some alcohol coming through, peat in the aftertaste. Lots of fruity esters (an easy half-dozen varieties, would probably win the title of ífruitiest imperial stoutí Iíve had), but also heavy hopping; medium bitterness because of the undercutting sweetness carried in on a swell of chocolate cake and icing. Alcohol definitely showing and warming, full body is chewy and decadent. The good thing: this sure doesnít taste infected, and is delicious. The bad: only got about 6 oz. Sad face.

Beerr discouraging black, brown head slightly persistent. Aromas of bitter chocolate, peat and roasting, burnt toffy and licorice, squid ink. The taste is superb, roasted, chocolate, hints of vanilla, smoked, a bit vinous. A warming and generous beer, will soon sold, perhaps, in bottles of one mouthful!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
In short: Another overly-roasted imperial stout. Decent.
How: Bottle 180ml, consumed 1.5 year after bottling date. Side by side with the Bruichladdich Barrel version of about the same age
The look: Black body topped by a medium dark beige head with medium retention
In long: Nose is roasted with some dark fruits and light notes of smoke. Taste is archtypical overly roasted imperial stout. Lots of burnt malts, burnt wood, ashes. The burnt malts build up an acrid sensation. A bit of alcohol bite at the end. Not a bad beer at all but it simply gets lost in the large sea of highly roasted imperial stout. Decent beer but this Heaven & Earth is nothing special. In the Beginning, God made the Heaven & Earth. The rest was Made in China.

Tap @ Monkís Cafť Sveavšgen, Stockholm. Pours a dark dark brown near black body with a big and really creamy lightly tanned head. Aroma is really smoky, peaty and ashy with small tones of chocolate and licorice. Nice stuff! Average to soft carbonation and a really smooth mouthfeel. Smoky and peaty flavors, lots of roasted malts, some chocolate and definitely licorice. Ends alcohol strong and warming. Almost heart burning aftertaste. Solid smoked!

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap @ La tana (had a bottle of it sometime in the past). First of all, i love this beer. Black with reddish shadow solid color. Big creamy condensed cappuccino head. This beer is very hard to pour, the head prevails on the body no matter what or how you do. Itís a common issue shared by some other de molen beers. Intense herbs, malt, chocolate, cappuccino, tobacco and a little bit of smokiness aroma. Very good Taste of herbs, chocolate, sweet espresso, lactose, smokiness, peated malt, wood. Dry bitter finish. Quite carbonated but enjoyable anyhow. Big, massive body but silky mouthfeel. Basically the H&A is a really astonishing IRS (bitterness and sweetness perfectly balanced), in addition the peated malt gives a very brilliant smokiness feature which does absolutely not make the beer tasting like a fancy liquor or low alcohol whyshy. Itís not a really complex beer, the dark lord it is for instance, but in the first case iíd drink an entire bottle of of it without any problem cause the beer is damned enjoyable; for the darklord i doubt iíd like to.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 18/20
Gusher bottle resulting in a loss of beer and ridiculous 10% beer/90% foam pours in my efforts to save beer. Perhaps the amateur bottle conditioning is De Molenís way of mocking the consumer for being so foolish as to spend this much money on a single bottle of beer. Rant aside, this beer presents with a typical stout appearance and a wonderful aroma of smoke, peat, roasted malt, light licorice, and bitter chocolate. Taste is heavy peat, smoke, wood, chocolate, light coffee, and soft bitterness through the finish. Creamy feel in the mouth. When I purchased this beer I was told by the owner at Brewberry that this batch used a new type of malt that was heavier on the smoke. Despite the lameness of the crappy carbonation this is an excellent imperial with a ton of smoke. Good beer.

Keg at Craft Beer Co. It pours near black, with some ruby highlights and a thick light tan head. The nose is smoked peat, liquorice, smoky bacon and chocolate. The taste is peat, salted liquorice, oak, roasted malt, meat, smoke, lingering alcohol warmth, ash, lactose and dark chocolate, with a dry-roasted finish. Full body, lively carbonation and velvety mouth-feel. Complex, well balanced and damn tasty.
