4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
pours black with very huge foam, tan beige one leaving permanent 1cm layer of rocky top, siminish slow. Aroma is intense - vanguard smoked malt, raisins, cocoa, roasted malt, a bit herbal hops afterwards. same in flavor. Taste is dominant sweet with touch of roasted bitter and min sour end. Palate - close to full body, silky-velvet mouthfeel, thick-oily-slick texture, flat carbonation, mild dry finish, aftertaste is like dark rye bread with touch of sour-bitter. Aftertaste is not long. Complex flavor, through smoked aroma and flavor dominance its difficult to catch tiny tones, but that just makes this brew more enjoyable, more tricky. Taste I like the most, although as my first Imp Stout with peated malt, I think it could be some subcategory of smoked one. Good.

I REALLY love this. Heavy peat aroma and taste, but not overbearing. Carbonation was on the lighter side but still present and perfect for the style. I got notes of sea salt in the aroma, which was beautiful against the peat, and the most distant taste of cherry which was really nice against the smoke and dark malts. Not a sweet beer, but itís body holds all those intense flavors together in a way that is very palatable.
Definitely not a beer for the non-enthusiast, but a masterfully done imperial Stout, Iím my opinion. Itís the 25 year old Scotch of beers.

Molasses/caramel sweet, smoky and roasted malt. Pretty nice smoked flavor; a little weird with the sweet flavors, though. A little alcohol flavor... Not much for 10% ABV. Moderate bitterness.

750ml. 07/12/2011 Noire. Nez: acide. Café. Fumée. Bouche. Cacao. Extrêmement fumée. Chocolat noir. Café. Torréfié. Très sèche. Whisky. Chaleur d'alcool. Crémeuse. Liège. Presqu'aucun sucre. Tout se passe en bouche et pas grand chose au nez. Mais un grand bonheur pour les amateur de bière et de whisky.

Tap @ Delft Bierfestival. Black colour, thin beige head. Nose is roasted malts, massive chocolate, some peatiness, but not too overpowering. Flavour is roasted malts, chocolate, peat again. Fairly bitter and dry. Low carbonation. Roasty finish. Good stuff.

Bottle - 330ml. Opaque black body with a good beige creamy head. Strong malty aroma with whisky and hoppy hints. Alcohol is noticeable, but not too agressive. Taste is well balanced. It carries strong woody notes and ends with a warming whisky/woody finish. Very interesting.

@Nederlandse Bieren Festival Delft - Smoke comes through quite a lot in the aroma although itís more muted in the taste. Itís quite sticky. Thereís plenty of bitter, roasted malts inn the flavour along with that ever present smokey edge.

33 cl. bottle. Pours black with a short tan head. Dark malt aromas with dark fruit and some smoke. Once you take the first sip, the smoke really hits you. The finish is slightly sweet and is completely masking the high alcohol content. What a great beer!
