Made with the most heavily peated malt in the world from the Bruichladdich distillery. Almost pitch black and opaque, small head. Furiously peated aroma, hiding the malt, licorice and dark chocolate somewhat. Very full bodied, thick mouthfeel, like fluid bread. Dark chocolate, loads of peat, lapsang souchong tea, chocolate cake, culminating in an almost endless aftertaste that also has licorice.
Alcohol varies by batch.

330 ml bottle. Pours black with big tan head and nice lacing. Huge peat smoke aroma; very difficult to pull any else. Overly smoked. I know there is a full malt base in there and suspect there may be some other complex flavors but they are overpowered by the smoke. Sorry, itís so smoked it tastes like burnt garbage.

The best beer Iíve ever tasted. Drank at a local beer festival in the summer. Going to the Netherlands at the end of the month so will re-rate in detail when (hopefully) drinking it.

Bottle. Poured a black color with a large frothy brown head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted chocolate, earthy smoke and alcohol aroma. Medium to heavy sweet toasted dark earthy flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet and small alcohol bite finish of moderate to long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a standout beer.

Big time smoke pit scents and taste. Has some nice chocolate and roast flavors as well, can get a little alcohol bite.

You never know what youíre going to get when you open up a de molen bottle - thereís nothing to tell you if itís going to be an insipid bitter or a rich treat like this one. Pours a dark brown with an inch of bubbly light brown head. Very noisy beer. Aromas peat, leather, cocoa, licorice, Flavour is potent - very peaty, with lots of licorice. Warming alcohol through and through adds intensity. Long bitter finish. My one complaint would be itís really gassy. Drinks really easily for such a big beer.

Nip. Bottle 55. Bottled on 18/01/2010. Pours black with a creamy tan head. Aroma of peat malt, sweet chocolate, and licorice. Flavor of peaty chocolate, light tangy licorice, and a subtle black malt. Palate is creamy and coating, but doesnít linger long. A fine brew.

October 31, 2012 bottle from AV3. Black pour with big head that lasted and spotty lacing. Aroma was roasted malt, peat, smoky and chocolate. Taste was dominated by the peat, had some roast and ghe finish was dry and alcohol. Medium bodied and carbonated. Bottled 12/5/11.

WARNING - the most ridiculous gusher showering 2 walls in my kitchen and covering the floor. It literally exploded (despite it having been sat in my outhouse upright for over a week) and I ended up with a little less than half the bottle !!! I digress ... (half) a bottle at home (thanks to Dennis for an IP trade) 30/10/12. Murky dark brown, no head, small particles line the glass above the rim of the liquid. Big peaty nose, molasses, treacle toffee, dark malts, touch of chocolate and spice. Big peated whisky taste at the fore of this beer. Molasses, dark sugars, dark fruits, smoky. Full bodied with no carbonation and a smooth finish. Tasty stuff but a bit one dimensional and it would have been nice to have had more than half of what Iíd paid for !!!

Bottle - Cocoa and alcohol with hints of smoke, roasted malts and coconut. Black with a very rich brown head. The peat is there and wow is it good. Syrupy mouthfeel without the lingering alcohol finish I have come to expect in an Imperial Stout. If you are an Islay fan, you will love this beer.

Bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours black with a big fluffy tan head. The aroma has peat, smoke, ash, hints of dark chocolate and peat. The flavor punches you in the mouth with peat; additionally I got smoke, wood, earth, and perhaps a hint of anise. This is not my kind of beer. I like barrel influences and the synergy of flavors, not complete domination of one flavor, especially when it is peat. Iím pretty sure this is well done, but not for me.
