3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pitch black color, small brownish tan head. Aroma has a great deal of roast surrounding a peated base. Throw in some liquorice, dried fruits, bitter coffee and some chocolate, and you’ve got it. Very strong attack on the nose. Also some spices around the edges. The taste has an interesting, roasty and spicy bitterness to it. The modest carbonation tickles the palate, tossing around roast, liquorice and coffee quite graciously. Very nice balance. Some fresh dry hops in the end as well. Very nice indeed.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
330mL black wax from Ma Che Siete in Rome. The pour is a deep brune to near black with a gargantuan, sheen, dark mocha head erupting out of the snifter. Good retention but not too much lace. Looks hysterical. Aroma is oil cured Beldi olive heavy, burnt cherries, roast, forest, hazelnut, raspberry chocolate. Moving to muted, rich ganache and welcome soft alcohol. Very inviting. Taste is tart, sweet, plasticy, oily, hazelnut liquor, strawberry vodka, warming alcohol. Tannic, dry, roasty, cocoa powder palate. More attenuated than I was expect. No smoke or peat character. On the right track but needs a little work. Would like to revisit this one in a 750 format perhaps with a little more age.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours black with a red hue with a nice brown head. The aroma is strong on roast with a lot of fresh grounded coffee notes along with a cocoa and liquorice component too. There are also notes of hops and a bit of smoke and tar. Some caramel sweetness in the mix as well. The taste reveals some of the peat smoked malts that were used in this beer. Bitter liquorice, dark bitter chocolate and coffee as well. The smoke component has a hint of tar and is also slightly chemical. Finishes bitter with hops, tar, smoke and liquorice. Very nice and different imperial stout.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(Bottle) Pours dark brown, black in the glass with a medium sized and creamy brown head. The aroma holds smoke up front but there is also some room for roasted malt. Meat/fish, peat, camp fire/charcoal and chocolate most notable. Undertones of tar, liquorice, vanilla ice cream, black currant and cherry lemonade, cigar, bitter nut shells, light dark fruits/figs/prunes/dates/raisins, light caramel and grapefruity/perfume-ish hops. The nose is a perfect blend between a German smoked Bock and a chocolaty Imp. Really enjoyable nose. The flavour is light to medium sweet, medium bitter and light acidic. Tones of smoke, roast, citric hops and salt. Salt liquorice, vanilla, tar/meat/camp fire/peat, chocolate and subtle dark fruits. The mouthfeel is creamy and quite silky with alight carbonation. Cocoa and grapefruit lingers. Near full-bodied.

1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20
Bottle (33 cl with black wax) from Systembolaget. Black with medium beige head. A sharp bon fire smoke aroma dominates and pretty much conceals everything else. A few salmiak and coffee notes may be sensed. Sweet, a bit acidic, bitter finish. Not my cup of tea.
