3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours dark brown with an attractive tan head and a smoked treacle aroma. There is a heavy smoked malt flavor with chocolate and dark molasses. A lot smokier than I expected, but still pretty tasty.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
750ml brown bottle, corked. 7 Dec 2011. Deep brown pour, almost black but some ruby showing through. Seems clear, but hard to tell. Deep tan head, small in size but creamy. Smoky nose, peat, light bacony note, roast, dark chocolate. In the mouth the beer is smoky with liquid dark chocolate behind it, earthy. Finishes drier, smoky and roasty, peat and hops attack the throat after swallowing. Not as heavy or thick in body than I was expecting, carbonation is lively and propels everything across the tounge in the right way. Alcohol is not perceptible to me, Iím sure it will hit me later, but this is very easy to drink. Luxurious.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Love this brewery. They donít play it safe and this beer is quite extreme. Initially the foamy brown head releases the strongest smoke aroma Iíve ever experienced. Reminded me of a smoked eel that my local fish store stocked last summer that would take over my fridge despite the layers of plastic. But the nose and taste settled down and it became quite drinkable. Canít say I really enjoy it and wouldnít go out of my way to try it again.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
(Bottle, 0.75 l - bottled 7 Dec 2011, at William K Kurvi, 20120424) The beer poured pitch black. Its head was quite large, light brown and long lasting. Aroma had smoke, peat and roasted malts. Palate was full bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were roasted malts, smoke, peat, hops, coffee, ash and bitterness. Aftertaste was roasty, ashy, peaty, smoky and bitter. Nice peaty imperial stout with a bit too burnt finish.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle with James, explosive pour, plum black color, huge light brown head. Lots of uniform tiny bubbles in the head, awesome brown lacing. Aromas of peat, chocolate, smoked nuts, braised meat. Taste is roasty and filled with peat, wood, cocoa, charred grain, and dark fruits. Very well balanced stout. I usually dont care for this style, but this one was excellent.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle purchased at Party Source. Darkest brown pour with a medium tan head. Smoky aroma of ham and band-aids with some dark fruit and chocolate hidden underneath. Smoky and band-aid flavor with some dark fruit and chocolate in the finish. I could tell there was some potential here, but the smokiness went horribly wrong and covered everything else up too much.
