Made with the most heavily peated malt in the world from the Bruichladdich distillery. Almost pitch black and opaque, small head. Furiously peated aroma, hiding the malt, licorice and dark chocolate somewhat. Very full bodied, thick mouthfeel, like fluid bread. Dark chocolate, loads of peat, lapsang souchong tea, chocolate cake, culminating in an almost endless aftertaste that also has licorice.
Alcohol varies by batch.

(bottle) pours a pitch black colour with a creamy beige-brown head. aroma of toasted malts, rose petals and herbal hops up front, followed by char, deep toffee and brown sugar, with light notes of coffee and dark chocolate. flavour is mostly char and ash, balanced by some initial brown sugar and caramel sweetness, with only a hint of peat smokiness and a dry spicy finish. very full-bodied with soft carbonation. would have liked more smoke flavour in this one.

Bottle from De Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Virtually black pour with a wee tan head. Peat heavy nose with roasted malt, smoke and chocolate lurking in the shadows. Full bodied and rich, the flavour continued along similar lines with hints of coffee, licorice and some tidy hop bitterness towards the long lingering finish. Super complex and super tasty. Winner.

Bottle. Pitch black color, small brownish tan head. Aroma has a great deal of roast surrounding a peated base. Throw in some liquorice, dried fruits, bitter coffee and some chocolate, and you’ve got it. Very strong attack on the nose. Also some spices around the edges. The taste has an interesting, roasty and spicy bitterness to it. The modest carbonation tickles the palate, tossing around roast, liquorice and coffee quite graciously. Very nice balance. Some fresh dry hops in the end as well. Very nice indeed.
