Made with the most heavily peated malt in the world from the Bruichladdich distillery. Almost pitch black and opaque, small head. Furiously peated aroma, hiding the malt, licorice and dark chocolate somewhat. Very full bodied, thick mouthfeel, like fluid bread. Dark chocolate, loads of peat, lapsang souchong tea, chocolate cake, culminating in an almost endless aftertaste that also has licorice.
Alcohol varies by batch.

Bottle. Black with a tan head. Notes of chocolate and coffee bound together by a sizeable plume of charcoal smoke. Delicious.

0.33 L bottle. Tall mostely diminishing choco head. Body is entirely black. Heavily roasted and smoky dark malt to the nose. A whiff of tar and peat, and hint of chocolate and vanilla. Near full-bodied. Viscous texture. Well roasted dark malts withe choco and licorice tones. Firm bitterness, both from the malts and the hops. Peat and smoke in the backbone. Smoky dark malts linger in a lasting finish. Very potent, very tasty.

Little head. Very dark and earthy. Peat comes through strongly in the taste and reminders of whiskey come to the nose. Excellent beer. Wow and Wow.

4 finger mocca-colored head that sinks to a 1/2 finger, black body with a tint of red. Nose: Smoked notes, leather, figs, dates and recently burned out fire-place. Aroma: Smoked notes, leather, ash, bitter chocolate, dates, soy-sauce, licorice, figs and medicinal notes. Complex. Long sem-bitter ending.

Big peat meets De Molen. Black color with not so much of foam. Aromas of Peat and coffee. Chocolate, coffee, peat, whiskey roasted malts, dark fruits.....all these flavors blend in this amazing beer. Strong on alcohol.

Gushing volcano after the champagne style opening extravaganza. Big pillowy tan head atop a black oil like substance below. Big roasted malt aroma, hint of burnt rubber and band-aid like smoke aroma. Sour flavor with subdued chocolate and smoke. A little tart and not to style. But close to the description. Should be classed as a smoked beer with IS as the base. Decent though.

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2012 Bottle. A real gusher. Dark brown/black liquid with huge tan head. Aroma of peat, coffee, chocolate, licorice, smoke, wood and earthy hops. Taste is light to medium sweet, light to medium bitter and roasted with notes of coffee, peat and chocolate. Medium bodied with too much carbonation. Nice but a bit too much smoke for my taste.

This was not my cup of tea. The beer looks ok but has short fine brown head and then almost black color. THe aroma is loaded with smoke, chocolate but also wet dishrag that makes it unplesent. In the taste you are assalted with loads of dark roasted malts. The taste is also sweet and has a big body but lacks complexity.

Pours black with some brownish edges and a tight light brown head. Aroma is oak smoke, heavily roasted coffee, olives. Taste is leather, bacon, smoke, dark chocolate, some abv, ham. Body is medium-heavy, low carbonation, bitter burnt finish. Overall, pretty good if you like smoky stouts.
