COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Made with the most heavily peated malt in the world from the Bruichladdich distillery. Almost pitch black and opaque, small head. Furiously peated aroma, hiding the malt, licorice and dark chocolate somewhat. Very full bodied, thick mouthfeel, like fluid bread. Dark chocolate, loads of peat, lapsang souchong tea, chocolate cake, culminating in an almost endless aftertaste that also has licorice.
Alcohol varies by batch.

Bottle, shared by me... in my dining room... just now.
Pours totally black with a big head initially that sort of fades into a small but tight and well retained head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass.

The aroma is a really nice balance of sweetness, dark roasty aromas (most particularly chocolate) and smoky, peaty, and earthy notes that most certainly call to mind Islay whisky.

The flavor is so dominated by the peaked malt that it should be off putting, but it’s really not. It has so much of the character of the smokiness and earthiness of an Islay but the dark chocolate, licorice, and bitter roasty malt character that dance in the background let you know you are indeed drinking stout and not whisky.

I don’t probably think I’ve ever had a "Scotch Malt" beer that was this good.

Very dark color with small grey head. Beautiful appearance. Roasted malts, chocolate, sweetness. Interesting complex taste of more chocolate and malts, but still a hint of freshness noticeable. Both complex and easily drinkable, the alcohol is hardly noticeable. Slick, smooth mouthfeel. Very tasty (and sweet) and very good. In the empty glass, there’s smoke and ashes remaining.

Shred by martjoobolut, thanks! Bottled May 2013. Black beer, tan head. Peaty nose, dark fruits, roast. The aroma itself is pretty substantial, as is the beer. Flavors of peat, chocolate, coffee, licorice, leather, slight sweetness, some hops, lots of roast. Oily, thick mouthfeel.
