Made with the most heavily peated malt in the world from the Bruichladdich distillery. Almost pitch black and opaque, small head. Furiously peated aroma, hiding the malt, licorice and dark chocolate somewhat. Very full bodied, thick mouthfeel, like fluid bread. Dark chocolate, loads of peat, lapsang souchong tea, chocolate cake, culminating in an almost endless aftertaste that also has licorice.
Alcohol varies by batch.

Huge peat here. Black pour without much head or lacing. Roast and chocolate. Not sure what this variety of tea is but there’s something a little odd here. Bitter finish. Tap at pizza paradiso.

Butelkowane 04.05.2012. Kolor nieprzejrzyscie czarny. Piana obfita, brunatna, pozostawia gruba warstwe. W aromacie dominuje torf, dalej lekka kawa i spora, ciemna slodycz, typowa dla RISa. W odczuciu nisko wysycone, gladkie.

Bottle dated Dec 2011 from alexsdad06 pours opaque black with huge tan head that settles. Nose hugely dominated by smoky peat. Some sweet malt but mostly earthy, smoky. Like liquid bacon poured over a charcoal briquette. Taste similar to the nose with pleasant earthy goodness. Some sweet malt and light bitter mid palate. Long finish accentuates the thick mouth feel.

Bottle, shared by me... in my dining room... just now.
Pours totally black with a big head initially that sort of fades into a small but tight and well retained head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass.

The aroma is a really nice balance of sweetness, dark roasty aromas (most particularly chocolate) and smoky, peaty, and earthy notes that most certainly call to mind Islay whisky.

The flavor is so dominated by the peaked malt that it should be off putting, but it’s really not. It has so much of the character of the smokiness and earthiness of an Islay but the dark chocolate, licorice, and bitter roasty malt character that dance in the background let you know you are indeed drinking stout and not whisky.

I don’t probably think I’ve ever had a "Scotch Malt" beer that was this good.
