Made with the most heavily peated malt in the world from the Bruichladdich distillery. Almost pitch black and opaque, small head. Furiously peated aroma, hiding the malt, licorice and dark chocolate somewhat. Very full bodied, thick mouthfeel, like fluid bread. Dark chocolate, loads of peat, lapsang souchong tea, chocolate cake, culminating in an almost endless aftertaste that also has licorice.
Alcohol varies by batch.

Small 18 cl bottle brewed on 14th december 2009. No head on this beer which was the only weakness of this beer. Nice roasted malty arome with a hop (amarillo ofcourse) finish. Aroma is malty bit hoppy but above al chocolate. Mild bitter after taste and a smooth mouthfeel. When the temperature of the beer rises during degustation, the amarillo becomes more eminent. At the recommended temperature of 16 degrees C, this beer is like a melted bag of maltesers

Bottle. Hop Hideout, Sheffield. Not far off black. Ring of tan. Slow motion in the glass. First aroma on opening was smoked fish. Thankfully that faded somewhat, soon after. What’s left is a medicinal, liniment, sticking plaster vibe. Big, peaty smoke. Background tar, liquorice, and praline. Taste is smooth, vanilla sweetness. Lots of peaty, ashy bitterness. Smooth, lightly drying palate. Finishes light bitter. Smoky, vanilla sweet on the lips. Close gets tangy, burnt bitter. Complex gear. Never entirely loses the smoked fish thing, for me, though. Would be interested to try the BA variants of this.

After 3 barrel aged versions it’s tome to rate the original. Dark brown to black colour with a medium sized beige to light brown head. Smells slightly peat, roasty, salty, salmiakki, nice. Tastes roasty, peat, slightly iron. I don’t really enjoy overly peated beers, but this beer hits the spot. Medium body, medium carbo.

WYGLĄD: Barwa czarna, nieprzejrzyste. Piana drobna, średniej wysokości, dość trwała.
AROMAT: Intensywny. Mocno uwędzona wędlina - dominuje. Słody palone, ziemistość.
SMAK: Podobnie do zapachu, tj. wędzoność, paloność oraz czekolady. Posmak - ciekawy - trochę kawy, trochę wędzonki. Gęste, oleiste.
OGÓLNIE: Ciekawy, "inny" - po prostu dobre.

Pours opaque black, with unstable brown foamy head. Aroma: alcohol is mild low detectable, with very strong presence of smoked, with hints of dried fruits, chocolate. Flavor is very smooth, with strong sweet flavor of malts and caramel, spicy notes of chocolate, tobacco, with fruity notes of dark fruits like plums, cherries, berries. Finish is slightly, for sure very discrete, smoked. Body is sticky, carbonation is low. Malt sweetness is medium, hop bitterness also. Finish is long lasting fruity sweet. Very good imperial stout. I did not expected so drinkable imperial stout!

Czarne piwo o ciemnobeżowej, puszystej lecz niezbyt obfitej i niezbyt trwałej pianie oraz intensywnym, wędzonym aromacie suszonych śliwek. W smaku gęste i pełen, lekko słodowe, wyraziście wędzone z nutami suszonych śliwek i posmakiem kawy w tle oraz łagodnie rozgrzewającym finiszem.

Tar pool black with small non-persistent tan head, oily sheen on top. The peated malt dominates the aroma, giving it a beautiful smoky bonfire aroma, along with licorice, iodine, dark chocolate. The taste has a strong molasses base, with a heap of smoky peat, iodine, espresso, dark chocolate, tobacco leaf and charcoal dryness in the finish. The syrupy body and low carbonation make this a slow sipper to savour, like a good Islay whiskey. Fantastic.

10%ABV. Smoked Imperial Stout. Poured out of the bottle a dark syrupy black brown. 40ºSRM. Did a side by side comparison with the Hel & Verdoemenis which I liked very much and this had distinctly more smokey nose. Hickory smoke, maybe a smidge of peat. Palate is syrupy and beware! There is no carbonation to lift it above the molasses-like mouthfeel. There is burnt toast an interesting spicy note which is brief and then mesquite, bamboo charcoal, sweet honeyed dates.

330ml bottle. Pours an opaque dark brown almost black with a very small brown head that doesn’t last. Aroma is alcohol, licorice, dates, figs, prunes, coffee and smoke. Nice warm smooth texture. Quite thin. Alcohol is relatively well covered but it comes through at the end. Quite smoky. Nice.
