Made with the most heavily peated malt in the world from the Bruichladdich distillery. Almost pitch black and opaque, small head. Furiously peated aroma, hiding the malt, licorice and dark chocolate somewhat. Very full bodied, thick mouthfeel, like fluid bread. Dark chocolate, loads of peat, lapsang souchong tea, chocolate cake, culminating in an almost endless aftertaste that also has licorice.
Alcohol varies by batch.

Small 18 cl bottle brewed on 14th december 2009. No head on this beer which was the only weakness of this beer. Nice roasted malty arome with a hop (amarillo ofcourse) finish. Aroma is malty bit hoppy but above al chocolate. Mild bitter after taste and a smooth mouthfeel. When the temperature of the beer rises during degustation, the amarillo becomes more eminent. At the recommended temperature of 16 degrees C, this beer is like a melted bag of maltesers

ciemnobrunatne, piana brązowa, drobna, nietrwała, natychmiast opada do cieniutkiej obrączki;
czekoalda, kakao, orzechy, kawa, alkohol, w tle wędzonka;
ciało średnie ku niskiemu, bardzo gładkie, średnio nasycone, alkohol grzeje w przełyk;
czekolada deserowa, wędzonka drzewna, oscypkowa, likier czekoladowy;
troszkę zbyt wyraźny alkohol a za słaba wędzonka, choć ogólnie piwko smaczne.

Stooor smag og lugt af røg. Ibu på 96 smages. Helt klart tørverøget øl, da den smager af fed røglugt som ofte er i whisky

Pours black with minimal brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, vanilla, wood and coffee. Taste is same as complex: coffee, smoked wood, cocoa, vanilla. Medium body, booze well hidden, medium bitterness. Fantastic, as any other De Molen stout! Masters!

Backlog rating. Keg at Mother Kelly’s, London. It pours a dark brown color with medium brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, chalky ashes, light bacon, cocoa and wood. Taste has more wood, cocoa, espresso, ashes and wood smoke. Full bodied with ok carbonation. Overall, nice dry RIS

Bottle. Hop Hideout, Sheffield. Not far off black. Ring of tan. Slow motion in the glass. First aroma on opening was smoked fish. Thankfully that faded somewhat, soon after. What’s left is a medicinal, liniment, sticking plaster vibe. Big, peaty smoke. Background tar, liquorice, and praline. Taste is smooth, vanilla sweetness. Lots of peaty, ashy bitterness. Smooth, lightly drying palate. Finishes light bitter. Smoky, vanilla sweet on the lips. Close gets tangy, burnt bitter. Complex gear. Never entirely loses the smoked fish thing, for me, though. Would be interested to try the BA variants of this.

After 3 barrel aged versions it’s tome to rate the original. Dark brown to black colour with a medium sized beige to light brown head. Smells slightly peat, roasty, salty, salmiakki, nice. Tastes roasty, peat, slightly iron. I don’t really enjoy overly peated beers, but this beer hits the spot. Medium body, medium carbo.

WYGLĄD: Barwa czarna, nieprzejrzyste. Piana drobna, średniej wysokości, dość trwała.
AROMAT: Intensywny. Mocno uwędzona wędlina - dominuje. Słody palone, ziemistość.
SMAK: Podobnie do zapachu, tj. wędzoność, paloność oraz czekolady. Posmak - ciekawy - trochę kawy, trochę wędzonki. Gęste, oleiste.
OGÓLNIE: Ciekawy, "inny" - po prostu dobre.

Pours opaque black, with unstable brown foamy head. Aroma: alcohol is mild low detectable, with very strong presence of smoked, with hints of dried fruits, chocolate. Flavor is very smooth, with strong sweet flavor of malts and caramel, spicy notes of chocolate, tobacco, with fruity notes of dark fruits like plums, cherries, berries. Finish is slightly, for sure very discrete, smoked. Body is sticky, carbonation is low. Malt sweetness is medium, hop bitterness also. Finish is long lasting fruity sweet. Very good imperial stout. I did not expected so drinkable imperial stout!
