330ml bottle from Bierkompass

Bottled July 2nd 2013 - Pours dark brown, almost black with a tiny bubbly head. Aroma of sweet syrup, wood, vanilla, dough, oak and some roastiness. Taste is sweet, oily and syrupy with some roastiness, ripe fruits, wood, vanilla, oak and ash. Finish is sweet, sticky and warming with some roastiness, licorice, wood and bourbony notes. Okay, but feels a bit unbalanced.

330 ml bottle, thanks tiong. Pours a black colour with a beigeish head. Aroma of wood, burnt hair, vanilla and dough. Very weird. Flavour of roasted malts, vanilla, strong wooden notes, butter, strong burnt bread crumbs. Full bodied, oily mouthfeel and a lingering bitter, wooden, roasty finish. A bit unbalanced.

330 mL bottle from Kensington Wine Market in Calgary, served in a stem glass. Pours black with a small tan head that fades to a thin remnant and leaves a small amount of fine lace. On the nose, there are notes of smoky, roasted malts, along with peat, oak, espresso and anise. The flavour is moderately sweet with roasted malts, smoke, peat and espresso, along with oak, earth, subtle hops. The peat is prominent up front but gives way to chocolate and anise towards the end. The finish is long and roasty with smoky notes and molasses. On the palate, it is full in body with a creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a nice imperial stout, with peaty, roasty notes from the barrel that blend nicely with the underlying malts. 2014-02-12

Bottled@vPBFIII. Black colour, small brown head. Aroma is nutty, leathery, some alcohol as well as some whisky like sweetness. Flavour is raisins, liquorice, some leather and mild alcohol to it. A bit boozy, but still quite easy to drink.

zwarte kleur, amper schuim. Ruikt naar peat, rogge, gebrand. Smaakt fantastisch, wel een zware jongen. Superbier!

> A sweeter, smoked honey ham dessert stout

[ Bottle ][ Etre Gourmet ][ 33cl ][ Pizza Boy Snifter ][ $20 ][ 2/24/14 ]
>> Clear, deep sepia pour. Very low carbonation requires some coaxing and swishing to generate a tight, coffee head. Nose off the bat is very intense smoked meat, glazed honey ham, burnt sugar, sweet sausage, banana style Wild Turkey. Taste is silky and decadent with assertive smoke and savory meat. Some rich bana bread in the mid harkens to Wild Turkey, a banana estery type of mid shelf bourbon. Not cloying. Abv is hidden. Palate is slick, oily, sweet but not over the top.

<!> slightly too sweet
