COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial Stout – 10,2% vol. Twice the amount of dark roasted malts used, massive Imperial stout. This is a mad one. Black brown colour with a thick and creamy tan head that can be added to as you wish if you give the bottle a swirl. Give this beer time to breathe and blossom into something truly stunning. Chocolate and alcohol are right there at the front but do not at all overpower the gorgeousness that is underneath. Full of leather, vanilla, amazing wooden notes, beautifully floral character from the hops, thick Belgian chocolate, much character. The flavour of crazy wooden tartness. An extremely bitter finish seems to come out of nowhere and is what really makes this quite unique. Superb width in the mouth and coats the whole palate beautifully.

Batch 2077, bottle 52. Thick black pour with light brown head. Aromas of dark roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla and some alcohol. Roasted malt flavors with bittersweet chocolate, vanilla, coffee and some booziness. A hint of citrus. Full body with soft carbonation and a chewy miuthfeel. Excellent.

After drinking at Menno’s place on and off for a couple of years, I’m shocked that the first time I’ve tried this one is in Washington, DC. of course, that just attests for the quality of the selection at Churchkey. Bottle shared with Evan. Rich and chocolately, and it has a nice head, a relatively rare find in De Molen beers. On of our favorites of the night. Delicious.

Tap, pours a dark black, the aroma is very nice of dark malts, the taste is very complex and smooth and it taste like a really nice chocolate beer. Very enjoyable.

On tap at De Molen. Dark black with little light tan head that faded quickly. Huge roasty, smokey flavours with alcohol. Roasty finish.

Bottle 999 of the Aug 26 2010 batch. WOW. Immediately on the pour you just know it’s going to be great. Thick black pour with reddish overtones on the sides and a nice frothy tanned red head. Overfizzed the bottle as well. The nose is simply incredible with notes hinting at burnt fig, cocoa powder, coconut husk, medium ground coffee, and sweet malt...perhaps some vanilla as well. The flavor starts so tender for a moment...malty chocolate covered in coffee sauce. The palate comes in strong in dark fruits, burnt flavors, and mellow vanilla blended perfectly. Velventy carbonation on the tongue. Haven’t been this stoked on a beer for a minute...but then again, there has not been many Impy Stouts consumed as of late.

Draft @ DeMolen, Aug 5th visit.

The beer is definitely thick and has a bit of a raisin-y aroma. The real standout about this beer is its seemingly everlasting complexity. Coffee? Cocoa? Toffee? Dark Fruit? Smokey Finish? Yes!!! A great demonstration of its category, but it will never get full marks from me because of how inaccessible it is.

Thick drifty head on black beer. Aroma is roasted malt, faded hops, chocolate, char, and soft raisin/malt. Taste is bitter hops and soft chocolate followed by roasted malt and coffee. Smidge of alcohol with some raisin through the finish. Fairly dry feel in the mouth. I really like this beer; very well done.

Bottle. big dense brown head atop almost black beer. sharp nutty malt nose, alcohol and some chocolate, and a touch of yeast. Flavors are thick, nutty, and malty...floral yeast, bitter hops, roasty malts combine nicely.

Bottle #113. Poured an opaque black color. The head was creamy, tall and brownish-orange with good retention and lacing. Chocolate, toffee, and subdued anise aromas. Medium to full bodied and slight sweetness balanced against ample roasty bitterness. Warming alcohol effect with dark chocolate liqueur, fig, earthy hop, anise, and vanilla flavors. Good stuff.
