Imperial Stout – 10,2% vol. Twice the amount of dark roasted malts used, massive Imperial stout. This is a mad one. Black brown colour with a thick and creamy tan head that can be added to as you wish if you give the bottle a swirl. Give this beer time to breathe and blossom into something truly stunning. Chocolate and alcohol are right there at the front but do not at all overpower the gorgeousness that is underneath. Full of leather, vanilla, amazing wooden notes, beautifully floral character from the hops, thick Belgian chocolate, much character. The flavour of crazy wooden tartness. An extremely bitter finish seems to come out of nowhere and is what really makes this quite unique. Superb width in the mouth and coats the whole palate beautifully. Alcohol 12% in latere versies

Bottle from De Bierkoning.

Not a surprise, I find this beer delicious in every way. Excellent look with a large creamy tan head and near pitch black body. Strong flavor intensity and complexity from start to finish. Coating mouth feel. Nose is strong and fairly complex. An incredibly great beer. Quite stunning. De Molen’s beers are one of a kind. The best stout brewer on earth.

Bottle, 11,9%. Very dark body, small beige head. Aroma has sweet toffee, iron and some tar. Smooth mouthfeel, taste has notes of licorice and some creamy malt. Later dark chocolate candies and more iron. Slightly vinous finish with red wine barrel. A bit thin body. Could be better with a richer body. Best Before date 25 years you say? (31/12/39 !!!) Cut the crap man, just because you once had a beer that miraculously held up fine for that long doesn’t mean that you can guarantee every single batch of your often undercarbonated Imperial Stouts holds up fine for that long without an issue. Get over yourself.

Found this sitting in The Beerium ® all alone. Had it for about a year. Bottled on 10-09-2014. 12% version. Dumped in the globs into my glass. Almonds leaning closer to Amaretto, soothing chocolate, deep not dark roast, vanilla, leather, something from Mike Danyliuk’s basement 30yrs ago (no - not memories of sausage). Excellent taste - better right out of the cellar and not in the glass for 45 mins. Succulent blend of soft dark chocolate that cranks up the bitterness and then lingers forever, leather, candy sugar and a touch of alcohol when I want to find it, plum / raisin thing, mouth full of chunks. Nothing remotely close to harsh. Complex, subdued and incredibly satisfying.

Bottle, decent walnut colored head. Aroma is plums, coffee, cookies and brown sugar, toasted barley, chocolate. Taste is mocha, wood, vanilla, anise, smoke, cookies, coffee. Palate is rich, carbonation moderate. This starts sweet, then reaches for a dry finish and almost sticks it. This is pretty good...

OK! Fantastic Stout! I give up! It has more coffee notes than the choco notes. A little bit alcoholic. I think Hel & Verdoemenis series are more classic and elegant. It depends. Long aftertaste, small head, which is normal for such alco-degree 12* and normal for De molen. They do almost no heads in their stouts. Its really nice and rich beer and what more can I say. Words not enough just try it!

Pours opaque black colour, with stable brown creamy head. Aroma: alcohol is mild noticable. Prevail note of chocolate, with hints of coffee, vanila and oranges. Flavor: alcohol is mild noticable. Taste is firstly smoothy sweet with malty note of dark chocolate, vanilla, mocha coffee, and fruity note of oranges (apollos esters of oranges). Finish is long lasting dry. Body is sticky, carbonation is low, malt sweetness is medium, hop bitterness also. 11.9% abv. is very well hidden. Very proper imperial stout.

11.9% ABV bottle. Aroma strong strong cocoa and chocolate, pleasant dark malts, not harsh at all. Pitch colour, solid head. Taste has alcohol evident right from beginning. Intense dark malty flavours, dark chocolate, coffee, roasted. Despite alcohol being all over the place it does not seem harsh. Pleasant, but a true sipper. Very good.
