PotjeBier (2747) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - JUL 26, 2014
75 cl bottle from De Bierkoning @ home, a bit overdue (bottled Nov. 2012). Pours a black color with a big dense beige head that keeps growing, with good retention and lacing. Aroma’s: laurel/bay leaves, drop, roasted, coffee/mocha-ish. More roasted retronasal, along with drop, laurel, light sweetness. Flavor is moderate bitter with some hoppy acidity. Medium bodied. Quite high carbonation. Finishes rather dry, roasted, moderate bitter. Still good, but now I wonder how this would have been young....

75cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Deep dark brown to black colour, beige head. Aroma of mango, grapefruit, some pine, quite hoppy even at 9 months after bottling, liquorice, Wybertjes or Fisherman’s Friend, coffee. Flavour of hard roasted malts, quite malty actually, light fruity, grapefruit, liquorice, some forest fruits, tar, a bit of cold coffee, very bitter chocolate, firm hoppy bitter finish with some pine. Medium-bodied at best, dangerously drinkable. Great stuff.

Pours a beautiful black beer with a good tan to brown head. Smells pretty fruity. Orange I guess. Nice taste. Coffee and roasted with some nice fruity tones. Really good bitter finish. Carbo is a bit to lively. Dry texture and a medium body. Good one!

Bottle shared at the ChrisO Flags of Many Nations Easter Tasting 2013 - London. Pours deep brown with a tight, creamy tan head. Nose holds lots of burnt pine and rich grapefruit. Medium sweet flavor, lightly roasty, with dark malts, burnt grass and pine, light chocolate, more grapefruit, orange. Light to medium bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Moderately resinous to finish with wet pine, burnt toast, juicy grapefruit. Superlative beer. Hits all the right notes and does so with gusto.

Tasting at ChrisO’s. Opaque dark brown beer with a tidy pale tan head. Smooth dark malt with a little dark chocolate and coffee. Nice light hops - good pine and floral notes with lesser citrus. Light semi dry finish. Effortless quality from Menno. Head and shoulders over anything else I tasted today.
