4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
At Borefts 2015. Aroma of whiskey, cherry, mild smoke and subtle chili. Taste has lots of cherry whiskey booze at first, but then the chili takes hold, which nicely combines with the softer previous tones. Good balanced beer.
Earlier Rating: 12/1/2013 Total Score: 4.2
Unlike the naga joloki, this one is balanced. First tones of coffee and roasted malt, after that some sharp pepper, but not too dominant. The barrel aging makes the beer more smooth and gentle, has some distant vanilla as well. Very good.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap, 1dl tasting glass @ Borefts 2015, Bodegraven. Body is pitch black, head is very small, fully diminishing. Nose is smoky, flavor is chemical, hot spicy, chilly, smoky, roasted malt. Medium sweet, medium to heavy roasty bitter. Finish is long lasting roasty medium bitter, medium hot spicy. Full body, dry texture, nearly flat carbonation. Quite heavy due to spicyness, interesting.

Smoke? Check! Chili? Check! Vanilla and chocolate? Check!
Pitch Black and Smokey nose! Little fruity as well.
And BAM! The chilis hit you like furious piranhas in a pool spilled with Virgin blood. And then smoke rolls over you, adding to bonfire in your mouth. So complex, spicy and fruity, yet dark and chocolaty and smooth.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
33 cl bottle. Bottled on 16.09.2013.
Pours pitch black color with a red tint on the sides and a small beige head. Very interesting aroma on this one, some chocolate cherry, wood, mild smoky notes, faint chili and dark malts. Coffee and dark berries on the flavor, dark chocolate and slightly roasted malts, the chili notes appear more towards the end. The mild burning sensation lingers for a while but never too strong, quite balanced actually. Not sure how strong the chili would have been on a fresh bottle but here it feels just right. Very creamy full palate. Very nice.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Pibar, Lausanne; bottled Sept 16th 2013; 11% ABV
Black color with compact brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, a bit dusty; not chocolaty as expected usually from De Molen. Good body strength; it has the usual excellent chocolate flavor, less sweet than other Imperial Stouts, with strong but correct bitterness, and a chili kick that it’s just right for my palate. But don’t drink another beer after this one.
Chili beer is not a favorite style, but this one is very well brewed.
