COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our new winter ale. Available from the end of November. Brewed with lots of spices but they won’t be overwhelming in both aroma and flavour.

Odense spring time specialties night at Dolle. Copper with a small off-white head. Aroma of malt, brown sugar and caramel with complex but quite strong spices. Sweet caramel and spice flavour. Couldn’t drink much of this spice bomb

Mycket malt och sötma i både smak och atomen. Fruktansvärt bra balanserad i smaken. Fin fyllig kropp, lite kolsyrad. Lagrad i 3,5 år.

Jojo, men blir ju inte direkt besviken på de Molen, ölen är galet fint balanserad med en tjusigt tilltagen kropp. Jag är helt enkelt väldigt imponerad av de Molen, igen.

Bottle. Poured clear dark brown color with an average frothy tan head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy sweet malt, yeast and spice aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy complex sweet malt and spice flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Complex solid brew.

2014.01.27 - de Molen Klap van de Molen - 11.2 oz bottle in small goblet glass. 2011-2012 vintage. Bottle marked 15/11/2011, presumably bottled date. Aroma: kind of line a pumpkin beer, honestly. Clearly a veggie smell. Could just be the combo of spices and my brain associating with pumpkin beers. Clearly sweet smells. Kind of barleywine-ish, similar to my recollection of the aroma of Bommen & Granaten but not as sweet. Appearance: Pours around 22 or so on SRM scale. Kind of medium dark mahogany or chestnut with red highlights. Not a lot of carbonation but a 1/3 finger off white head that lingers a good bit and slowly reassimilates. Taste: A bit of tart tang at first quickly replaced by the spices. This lingers until the underlying veggie-ish taste disappears and the spices trail off. Palate/Mouthfeel: very smooth, mostly light but a very mild bit of creaminess. Overall a slick mouthfeel. Aroma 7/10, Appearance 3/5, Taste 7/10, Palate 4/5, Overall 14/20

Bottle from Bierkompass!
Pours dark mahagony colored with flat head. Smell has anis, cinnamon and sweet roasted caramel malts. Starts with sweet caramel malts, spices and some belgian yeast. Middle part has sweet caramel and chocolate malts, paired with spices. Finish is malty and spicy, with a delicious belgian yeast notes! Awesome winter warmer!!

330 ml bottle at home - pours hazy amber with nearly no head. Aroma of nuts and malt, vanilla and cinnamon, cardemon. Sweet slight spicy palate, slight bitter in the finish, no carbo. Damn, well drinkable beer. This kinda blows me off my socks. BBD was 2 years after bottling date (Nov 2011) but I think I am going to keep on to my other bottle a while longer. This beer evolved well!

11.2oz bottle. Bottled 15/11/2011. Freshly arrived from the distributor. Labeled 9.8%. Totally hazy dark brown / red color. Lots of fine particles in the body hazing it up. Minimal off-white head. Some loose bits of lace. Way less head than in most De Molen brews, looks like it’s flat. Yup... Not completely flat, but very, very light carbonation. Almost flat... Bigger body. Lightly dry in the finish. I don’t completely mind the very light carbonation, it’s decently easy to drink, a nice change of pace from many overcarbonated european brews. It helps that the flavor here is pretty good. Caramel malt in the nose, but nice orange-citrus hop. Winter spice flavors work well with the dark fruit and caramel malt. Hint of chocolate... Pretty complex stuff, mostly tasty. Moderate to stronger bitter taste, little sweet in the finish. Hides alcohol decently well. At this point, a pretty decent strong hoppy (old) winter ale. Alright now, but I’d imagine this was way better fresh.
