Big bottle from De Molen online shop. Quite a gusher, all over the kitchen sink. Once settled it was a dark black pour with a quickly disappearing head. But quite a bit of stuff remains on top. Quite funky. Nose is quite sour and medicinal. Pretty rank. Taste is thankfully more robust in the beginning with quick taste of chocolate and malts, but then gets oily in texture and quite sour and milky. Kind of a thin weird finish. Not for me at all.

750 ml bottle, poured into a Guinness pint glass at home. ABV 3.5%. Bottled on Sept. 11, 2012. Fully filled bottle, some big chunks of whey visible on top. Pours a black coloured beer, with big bubbles on the surface instead of head, that most of them burst straight away. Finally, a couple of brown and yellow bubbles stay on top for quite long. It looks a bit disgusting to be honest. Aroma of sweet milk and chocolate, not that bad, but there is also a smell of burnt paper on the background. Very weird taste, I don’t remember having drunk anything similar. I can’t decide if it’s a good or a bad taste, also difficult to describe it. Very wide rage of flavours that includes everything, it begins sweet as a good milk stout, then becomes salty and bitter at the same time, only to end up with a sweet/sour flavour, with emphasis on the sour. There is a faint chocolate taste, but also a cheesy one. I certainly hope that this comes from the whey that is now on top of my glass and that the next glass will taste better. Quite carbonated, medium to full body. Tart feeling on the palate. Overall, interesting beer, but it seems it’s not for me.

75cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Black colour, big brown bubbles in the pour, dissipating fast to no head, loads of yellow/beige chunks. Aroma is sweet, milk chocolate, coffee, hard roasted malts, some sweet spices, rivella. Flavour is sweet, whey, roasted malts, coffee/moccha, milk chocolate, light bitter finish. Taste becomes cloying after a while. Lots of carbonation, very fizzy, but not really disturbing.

UPDATED: FEB 18, 2013 26/I/13 - 75cl bottle from De Hopduvel @ Nieuwjaarsreceptie Gentse Biervereniging - BB: n/a (2013-101) Thanks to Jan for sharing the bottle!

Cloudy dark brown beer, no head, like cola: lots of big bubbles while pouring, then dissipates immediately (probably from the fat off the whey?). Aroma: some chocolate and mocha, cheesy, pretty dirty, caramel, sugary, some dried fruits, dusty, cocoa powder. MF: lots of carbon, medium body. Taste: caramel, bit sour, dried fruits, mocha, sugary, coffee, bitter touch. Aftertaste: sweet and sour, mocha, some chocolate, dried fruits, cheesy, dirty ending. This is a failed attempt. Who would have a thought, De Molen makes a stout and it sucks... that’s new!

Bottle from bierkompass.de. Very dark brown color with huge quickly disappearing beige head. Pieces of whey or whatever it is are quite disgusting. Over carbonated. Aroma of coffee, milk, dark chocolate. Taste, dark malt, coffee, milk, caramel, sweet milk chocolate. sweet finish. Not very tasty beer.

Würzig malziger, etwas zu süßer Start. Zuckrig, wenig herb, unangenehme Bitterkeit zum Schluss. Leicht bitter, merkwürdig. 8/8/7/8//7

Utterly suspicious looking yellowish head, reducing itself to some mucky-looking bubbles on extremely liveley pearling, muddy cola-coloured beer. Wood, chocolate, nuts, coffee and leftover dough. Sourish, lactic, coffeeish, roasted to burnt, on a generally sweet-roasted main flavour. Permanent quasi-explosive carbonation, keeping the MF thin - not much else going on. OK, I won’t argue about the taste, but whey? Seriously, Menno, it looks appaling!

The head is medium, the body black. It smells coffee, a bit milky, a bit sweet, sour. Medium, not much caracter. 10/8/7/7/-/7
