Brewed April 2009
Small but nasty bottle: as soon as the cap itís removed, it ejaculates half of the content around the room. Left for the glass, there is a small quantity of black liquid, cloudy, with a huge frothy head. Dusty aroma of coffee and dirty water, cardboard, and obviously of yeast. Strong body, good flavor of roasted malt (coffee?), with a round mouthfeel; the final is all dedicated to the coffee.
All along the experience, there is enough sweetness to balance the roasted flavors; I would have appreciated it much more without the fireworks.

faroeviking (10288) - FAROE ISLANDS - MAR 1, 2010
Botella, "bottel" number 29 out of 619, brewed 04 April, bottled 03 May 2009. Deep dark brown colour with a huge light brown creamy head leaving a good lacing. Bitter coffee aroma indeed with chocolate and roasted malt. Good mouthfeel. The flavour has lots of very pleasant bitter roasted coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, spice and some alcohol. Long lasting coffee and chocolate finish with some alcohol, dry.

Bottle. Pours a clear, dark brown beer with a lightbrown head. The aroma is cold coffee. The flavor is likewise cold coffee with some tobacco. The palate is high carbonated. Overall a very good and wellbalanced beer.

Wax dipped 18cl bottle, #116 of 619 for this batch. Brewed on April 4, 2009, bottled May 3, 2009, and consumed in January 2010. The body is a dark and cloudy mahogany color. A tall, lasting, active head of mocha colored froth is well retained. Upon each tilt of the glass, a thick, sudsy wash breaks apart and mostly rejoins the body below. The aroma is massively roasted, huge coffee notes proving quite earthy and hearty, with an underlying malt base of creamy, dark chocolate. Hints of chicory and green grass emerge from beneath the coffee shroud, lending depth. Flavors to are intensely roasty and coffee dominant, with the grassy hops asserting themselves a bit more than the aroma foreshadows. Bold notes of dry, dark cocoa and lactic, creamy mocha complete the brew. Medium-plus in body, it might be just a hair thin for an imperial stout. Carbonation seems a bit overly active, slightly prickly. Overall, itís a very fine stout, though a few flaws hold it back.

Bottle # 590. Dark brown with a fluffy thick tan head. The aroma is mainly roasty with lots of chocolate, coffee and brown sugar. Good roasty, bit boozy flavour with lots of coffee notes. Caramel, hops and chocolate. Roasty coffeish finish. Bit overcarbonated to my likings for the style.

ante (3374) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - FEB 5, 2010
Bottled. Opaque black with a rich pale brown head. Rich aroma of espresso Arabic sweet coffee, well-roasted malts, burnt caramel with sweetish undertones of fudge and vanilla. Full-bodied with rich chewy notes of espresso, roasted malts, coffee, caramel and mild dried dark fruits. Rather lively carbonation. Long coffee-bitter finish of roasted malts, licorice, burnt caramel and coffee-beans. Intense!

Bottle (trade with the great Koelschtrinker). A gusher - beware! Espresso, balsamic vinegar, and sweet dark chocolate aroma. Cloudy dark brown color with explosive head initially but fades very quickly. Sweet mocha flavor up front followed by bitter/astringent coffee bean/grassy hops finish. Cannot detect any weasel poop in this at all. Despite the gimmick of this beer, it is very nice.

Bottle. Basically black with an absolutely ridiculously big tanned head. I opted for my biggest snifter for this one, and it got filled with airy foam after just a minimal pour. The damn thing has nerve to dissipate at eonic time frame as well, so it takes a while for it to settle. The aroma has lots of powdered coffee notes and espresso notes to it. Some roasted malts, chocolate, esters and chemicals (watercolor paint) as well. The taste is quite intense and filled with powdered coffee aromas and bitter espresso flavors. Some sweetness and notes of caramel, roasted malts and a hint of spicy hops. The coffee and roasted malts get slightly acidic and tannic sometimes. The finish has a pleasant coffee bitterness to it and notes of chocolate, coffee and a hint of chemicals. The body is fairly light for the style and due to the excessive carbonation itís really easy on the palate. Drinkability is therefore dangerously high, and thereís no sign of the ABV. This is good stuff. The intense coffee character really puts the coffee junkie in me at rest. I love how De Molenís light stout character goes with the coffee aromas.
