3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Brewed April 2009
Small but nasty bottle: as soon as the cap it’s removed, it ejaculates half of the content around the room. Left for the glass, there is a small quantity of black liquid, cloudy, with a huge frothy head. Dusty aroma of coffee and dirty water, cardboard, and obviously of yeast. Strong body, good flavor of roasted malt (coffee?), with a round mouthfeel; the final is all dedicated to the coffee.
All along the experience, there is enough sweetness to balance the roasted flavors; I would have appreciated it much more without the fireworks.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: OCT 2, 2010 Bottle courtesy of CaptainCougar, thank you sir. Brown, big brown head, massive lacing - a very attractive beer. Aroma is chocolate and burnt espresso, taste has chocolate and light spice, medium body. Nice. 3.8
Second tasting on draught at de Molen. Aroma and taste are both more intense and characterful than I remember, a really nice beer. 4.2

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at KØ-10. A dark brown beer, unclear, and topped by a beige head. The aroma has a lovely roasted, mocha and black coffee smell, but not much else. That’s of course ok with a beer like this. It’s roasted in the flavor, with mocha and a coffee-like bitterness. Full-bodied and dry. I expect a beer with a name like this to be quite coffee focused, but I think there’s not enough of other aromas and flavors, it gets too one dimensional. But it’s a fine beer anyway. 100508

Ickle bottle given to me by Menno. Thanks so much. Drunk during Hughie/IrishBoy/Odeed night of being 60. Cheers guys. Can’t think of a better beer to rate on this evening. Black as night with touch of dark brown round the edges and huge tan head I needed to decant to get rid of the excess carbonation. Well, that smells of coffee. Big coffee, huge coffee, huge espresso with a touch of rich Belgian chocolate. Can I have this everyday for the rest of my life please? Simply gorgeous coffee, huge and just hits you through the eyes. Smooth in mouth and very smooth on the finish, not harsh in any way. No powder either. Just like a frap-espresso. Damn, the coffee on that is good. Best coffee beer ever? Damn close. Thanks Menno.

18 cl. bottle @ Hj Hansen, Odense. Bottle # 528. Pours black with a surprisingly large, full and fluffy beige head and lacings. Nose is chocolate, ashes and lots of cold coffee. Lively carbonation - full and smooth palate.Taste has a a heavy bitterness from both roasted coffee and hops. Vaguely sticky and oily. Warmth. Long end . . Nice.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle, 9.5%. Mild coffee aroma, like ground coffee beans after water has run through it. Cloudy very dark brown colour. Small stable brown head. The flavour is nicely sweet, there is some coffee, first in the flavour, later in the aftertaste. First it is a little like coffee with cocoa and perhaps cream, later it tastes like fresh-ground coffee.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled 05/2009 @Beer Hunters
Bottle almost exploided when bartender opened it! Dark brown color, huge beige head. Aroma has strong cold coffee, vegetables and coffee beans. Lots of carbonation, almost disturbing amount in the mouthfeel. Flavor is quite par with nose: coffee beans, dark malts, vegetables, roasted notes. Finish has some hayish cat piss -hoppy notes and aftertaste touch of alcohol. Strange.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Nip bottle shared in London - big thanks to Paul for this whale. Vintage 2009. Pours rich brown with a creamy beige head. Still lots of hearty coffee on the nose, some earth, dark chocolate. Medium to big sweet flavor with sugary chocolate, brownies, dark malts, mellow bitter earth, mocha. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation and silky texture. Very light warmth to finish with milk chocolate, soft roast, earth, baking cocoa. Extremely well rounded and drinkable. Excellent.
