Wijsbier & De Molen. Niskie nasycenie.

(330ml 24/01/2013 bottle @ PiBar, Lausanne, Aug 11 2015) Pours black with a fairly small whitish head fading to a ring without lace. Aroma is pungent roasted coffee beans, very earthy, ashy, liquorice, sweet chocolate and dark malt core restrained but there in support of the big roast bitterness. On the palate, a big roasty coffee note, earth, soy, liquorice, bitter chocolate, sweet dark malt is restrained and only shows up when warm. Finish has lots of coffee roast, burnt and ashy with some earth, just a hint of alcohol heat. Medium full but slick with fairly soft carbonation. Coffee really stands out here, malt gives it proper support, a little less rich and more harshly roasted than Brunch Weasel, De Molen style. Probably good they stopped making it, but glad I got to try it.

UPDATED: JUL 20, 2015 Bottle, bottle date 24/1/2013. pours black with almost no head. Big coffee, soy sauce, liquorice, slightly salty, butterscotch, plums, dark chocolate. Medium sweet and bitter, medium body, thin-ish slick texture, almost no carbonation, lingering soy and chocolate finish. Good taste, but lacking in mouthfeel and appearance.

Drank a 2013 bottle with my toommates 16-7-2015. An okay beer, however the taste is not very comprehensive and a bit faded. The beer lacks some power. Still, very pleasant stout, well balanced and a nice taste.

Enticing aroma of licorice in an inky black pour. Flavour is impressively and surprisingly laid-back for the strength with hints of licorice, coffee, and chocolate in a refreshingly tart wrapping. A sublime brew to be honest.

Bottle filled to nearly the cap pours opaque black with enormous tan head. Nose dark roast coffee, slightly spicy, and hint of green vegetables, but not unpleasant. Taste big bitter coffee and bitter dark chocolate. Roasted malt from mid palate through the finish. Balanced by some sweet malt as well. If you’re going to use kopi coffee, might as well make it big.

Pours pitch black with a huge mocha head. Strong aroma of dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans, slight liquorice scent as well. Tastes rich but not too sweet with a dry bitterness. Full body, heavily carbonated, and smooth on the palate. Excellent imperial stout overall.
