3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Jet black pour; thereís about a 6:1 ratio of head to actual beer in my glass, even with a modest pour. Dafuq is this. Chunky, porous, brittle, deep khaki head. Takes a goddamn decade to recede, too. Sticky. fat lacing, everywhere. Milky chocolate aroma; vague dark fruitiness, grassy tones, slight roast... Maybe some coffee? Not as "coffee heavy" as Iíd expect. The taste is another story. Huge roast, scorched & burnt coffee bean flavor out of the gate. The heavy char is quickly blunted by an undercurrent of mocha & lactose-like sweetness that rushes in. Hint of burnt caramel, with some reciprocating dark chocolate & brown sugar. Finishes by coating your palate with cold pressed, full city roasted coffee. Not explicitly "kopi", I guess, just regular olí coffee. A good stout, but a weird stout. Thereís something strangely compelling about it.

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Poured from a bottle. Retained light brown head. Incredible coffee and malty aroma, though I could almost taste the alcohol before I sipped. Taste replicated the aroma almost perfectly. Strong alcohol aftertaste. Delicious, though not for the faint of liver.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma: 7/10. Molasses, caramel, toffee, honey. A very sweet aroma, not especially complex, but very pleasant.
Appearance: 5/5. Pours black-brown with a surprisingly thick and lively brown head that fades to tan and lasts for minutes and multiple sips.
Taste: 8/10. Molasses, coffee, and then chocolate, all lingering and lasting with some nice licorice and toffee notes. Whatís especially notable is the way the flavors resolve sequentially; *first* coffee, *then* coffee layers on, *then* chocolate layers on overtop. And this is on each sip! Strong alcohol flavor in this one. I canít put this one down; just absolutely great structure and layering. The finish is more bitter than Iíd like with that same finish of grapefruit juice, and itís strong enough to dock 2 off the 10 I might otherwise give it.
Palate: 4/5. Smooth on the tongue, but surprisingly lively in carbonation for a coffee stout. A little acidic and astringent, in a good way; surprisingly crisp for any sort of stout!
Overall: 17/20. I feel like Iím under-representing this one by a few points because of a lack of a strong aroma, but the taste more than makes up for this. Of particular special note is that *sequential* flavor layering, itís quite a trick to make three flavors arrive in succession instead of all together. Yet another world-class stout by De Molen.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Bacchanalia. Sadly, I think the bottle was slightly defective; when I opened it, the beer was almost to the top and when poured, it had very little carbonation. Was a very ark brown, with a marbled tan head and some lacing. Aroma was musky, with some dark rum and aniseed. Dark malt flavours, with some molasses and liquorice. Finish was honeycomb, coffee and cocoa nibs.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
(33cl bottle) near black, not much head, fades like soda. Nose of bacon and smoke, older coffee, peanut shells, and chocolate syrup. Taste of milk chocolate, bits of cacao nibs, coffee, umami, soy sauce, smoky and salty. Unique beer, under carbonated and bacony linger.
