3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
330ml bottle. Opaque black with medium creamy beige head. Dark malt, dark chocolate and cocoa aroma, some alcohol; coffee not really detected. With good will cappuccino in the beginning. Taste starts grainy, carbonation induced, later with a variety of coffee notes, roasted and unroasted, sweet and dry, also "Ovomaltine". The coffee notes I cannot describe in an other way than somewhat "pushing downward", as if hop or sour "upward" notes would be kept under a certain limit. A late entering sourness definitely has its origin in the coffee addendum. This beer brings together coffee notes that may stem from surrogates or from real coffee and deserves a pedagogical merit in this regard. Definitely it is an harmonic integration of corresponding flavours. If it was more fruity and less grainy accentuated I would concede an even better score.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Denman Liquor. Dark brown. BIg head, probably too much. The aroma is a bit odd, lots of coffee, but a fair bit of fruitiness. Medium body, some molassesy sweetness but simple dark sugars. Lots of coffee, though it doesn’t distinguish itself much.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
(Bottle) Dark brown colour, almost black, with frothy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, caramel, cacao, dark rye bread and a touch of liquorice. Malty, roasted taste with lots of fresh coffee, liquorice, dark chocolate, black rye bread, roasted malt and a generous coffee bitterness in the finish. Full body, with just a touch of sweetness. Fresh an tasty with a generous coffee character (more so in the mouth than in the nose) and alcohol well hidden. Very nice.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
330ml bottle. Deep black in colour with a very large and long lasting tan head, excellent lacing. The aroma is of espresso, dark chocolate, deep roast, burnt. The flavour is of espresso and cream, dark chocolate, rasted malts, some sugary sweetness. Roasty mouthfeel, medium body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, roasty and warming. This is amazing stuff. The alcohol is very well hidden, so roasty and toasty. Very good.

0,33l Flasche. Dunkelbraunes fast schwarzes Bier, etwas beiger Schaum. Riecht nach Röstmalzen und Kaffee, schmeckt intensiv nach Kaffee und Bitterschokolade. Trotzdem kommt noch der typische eines Stout durch. In der Textur ölig voluminös.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
33cl bottle (bottled 24/01/13 and probably bought at Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo). Pours Very dark brown with almost no head at all. Did open it when it was still a bit to cold and then the aroma was surprisingly modest. As it gains temperature it opens up and the strong coffee aroma gets quite obvious. Nice roasty aroma with lot of coffee, some cocoa, earthy notes, dark fruits and hints of licorice, vanilla and wood. Medium sweet, surprisingly easy to drink and feels much lighter than expected. Alcohol is well integrated. Flavourful and certainly nice, but feels a bit thin somehow.
