4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled, from Holiday Wine Cellars in Escondido, CA. Imported by Sheldon Brothers edition. Over the past few years I’ve been on the hunt for more brews from De Molen. Appearance is nothing short of stellar; pitch black with a cascading head as it is poured into my snifter. Lively carbonation settles into a fat, pillowy head that lasts throughout the entire glass. Perfection in that category. Notes of dark chocolates, plum, pancake batter and rich coffee loft off the head. The aroma is killer, my favorite aspect of this beer. Flavor follows suit here but with less intensity. The palate is rich and coating; the beer leaves a fine slick on the mouth which fades to coffee bitterness and dryness as the experience ends. For me, this falls just short of what Alesmith has done with Kopi Luwak Speedway Stout here in San Diego, California USA, but it is a damn close second. Well done De Molen.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
I have no idea if I’m rating the correct beer here. It came out of neat little green bottle, if that helps. Black, decent head. Rich coffee and chocolate aroma. Oddly light bodied Flavor is rich earthy coffee and dark chocolate.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Completely black liquid with a small bubbly beige head at first. It soon vanish into nothing. A double mixed feeling about this one. Admit it was to cold at first. Coffee and strong grassy. I do not fancy grassy beer. Well I could not pour it into eternity. So I sipped on. After a while it was really warm and absolutely all carbonation had vanished. Well it was not much at first either. The warmer it got, the better it tasted. Less grassy. More coffee and mild pleasant fruity notes. A nice coffee with alcohol. The alcohol was dangerously well hidden. Full to medium body. Moderate sweet.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bière d’un noir très intense, avec énormément de café, très concentré, on a l’impression de manger des grains de café. Assez vite écoeurant, on ne sent qu’un arôme, presque un digestif.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
330 ml bottled on19/04/12. Hueless blackwater brown, lasting creamy mocha head. Aroma of dark roast coffee and milk chocolate. Fizzy mouthfeel, tastes like sweet chocolate covered espresso beans, intense roasted dark malt, some caramel. Soft carbonation, full bodied, moderately hopped. Quite strong, yet ABV remains extremely well hidden. Pretty damn good for a shitty coffee, but still: DNFL (Definitely Not For Lagerboys)
