4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled, from Holiday Wine Cellars in Escondido, CA. Imported by Sheldon Brothers edition. Over the past few years I’ve been on the hunt for more brews from De Molen. Appearance is nothing short of stellar; pitch black with a cascading head as it is poured into my snifter. Lively carbonation settles into a fat, pillowy head that lasts throughout the entire glass. Perfection in that category. Notes of dark chocolates, plum, pancake batter and rich coffee loft off the head. The aroma is killer, my favorite aspect of this beer. Flavor follows suit here but with less intensity. The palate is rich and coating; the beer leaves a fine slick on the mouth which fades to coffee bitterness and dryness as the experience ends. For me, this falls just short of what Alesmith has done with Kopi Luwak Speedway Stout here in San Diego, California USA, but it is a damn close second. Well done De Molen.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma of earthy chocolate, green peppers, coffee, leather, tobacco and raisins. Murky brown color with no head, low carbonation. Taste of tobacco, earthy, soy sauce, green peppers, coffee, leather, very complex, but not super pleasant. I think this one is a bit old (3 years and 9 months) and the coffee has gone a bit stale.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Rating #1851 - 2015.08.07- Bottle from CBI - Pours a midnight black with a bubbly tan head. Aroma is cat-shit coffee, or what I assume cat-shit coffee smells like. Its bold, roasty, earthy, floral. Palate is much the same. A hidden gem.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Denman Liquor. Dark brown. BIg head, probably too much. The aroma is a bit odd, lots of coffee, but a fair bit of fruitiness. Medium body, some molassesy sweetness but simple dark sugars. Lots of coffee, though it doesn’t distinguish itself much.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
330ml bottle. Deep black in colour with a very large and long lasting tan head, excellent lacing. The aroma is of espresso, dark chocolate, deep roast, burnt. The flavour is of espresso and cream, dark chocolate, rasted malts, some sugary sweetness. Roasty mouthfeel, medium body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, roasty and warming. This is amazing stuff. The alcohol is very well hidden, so roasty and toasty. Very good.
