Bottled at home. Bottle almost exploded, just kept on gushing. Opaque black appearance, huge dark brown head. Very strong nose of coffee and malts. Very bitter flavor, coffee again, some malts. Very bitter finish. Pretty extreme flavor, quite one-dimensional though. Very American-style brew, very strong, but lacking some complexity.

2010 bottle. Pours a thick black with a large head. Nose is super roasty, dry cocoa, some peat and charred wood. Carbonation is ungodly high, higher than the liveliest champagne ever, higher than the most tempestuous old Drie Fonteinen lambic. Mouth is almost hard to discern. Some dry roasted, ashy qualities. Messed up bottle.

2010 vintage 18 cl bottle brought back from Europe. The beer wanted out of the bottle with a large crack hiss from such a tiny bottle. I was careful to let it out by applying relief pressure to the cap enough to let out some carbonated foam. The beer pours to a black body with a tall, super lively rocky tan head, excellent lacing, and a sound of bubbles popping. The aroma is chocolate, dust, and coffee. Notes of chocolate ganache and espresso. I was a little worried about infection, but I can sense none. Lots of coffee and chocolate with some brownies and black tea. The palate is creamy and lively. Medium full body.

I have no idea as to why I never reviewed this but I have definitely had this / “backlog” – 2009 vintage 18 cl. bottle purchased @ Alvinne – consumed at home: black / very dark brown with a tiny brown head – smells like roasted malts, kopi loewak (I am going by the Brunch Weasel as far as the taste of that is concerned), slightly creamy, chocolate – taste is coupled with a smooth mouthfeel (might have used a touch more thickness) and a hint of that Molen milk-touch, roasted malts, kopi loewak, milk chocolate, hints toffee of toffee, creaminess leads to slightly bitter & touch dusty chocolate aftertaste, not bad – I did expect a touch more from this

Bottle @ home. 2009 version, courtesy of my secret santa. Thanks Mads! Bottle opened with a hiss and poured a huge, bubbly, light brown head and a deep brown appearance. Very rich woody, dark coffee, roasted chocolate malty aroma with a noted earthiness but very nice.Bubbly mouth feel. Slight burnt rubber, very roasty chocolate malty, earthy espresso flavor with a somewhat bitter, coffee finish. Dark chocolate, roasty aftertaste.

Bottle (not sure where I purchased it) shared with my dad 05.01.12 Pours black, this is quite thick and oily with a large foamy dense head, light beige in colour. Heaps of coffee and roastiness on the nose. Plenty of coffee and dark chocolate in the mouth, touch powdery (cocoa) at times, very roasty, flavoursome stout. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov14 3.7

A black beer with a beautiful, medium and light brown head. Aroma is strongly roasted, lots of strong coffee, some milky sourness and hint of vegetables. Taste is great, roastiness, coffee, balanced sweetness and bitterness; very tastefull. Taste isn’t very complicated and not strong either, but still very enjoyable. Full bodied, velvet like smoothy and very pleasant to drink. Tastefull and pleasant beer, velvety drinkability meets smooth coffee and together they built up the great alliance.
