Draught at De Molen. Pitch black. Small head that quickly disappeared. Complex nose - roasted malts, chocolate, smokiness. Taste follows the aroma. Full throttle. Slightly smoky/peated aftertaste. Delicious.

From draft, very dark can’t even see through it holding it against direct sunlight. Very whiskey-y aroma with hints of sweetness. The taste itself is superb, very malt and whiskey like although i couldn’t quite place where the sweetness came from until we overheard a waiter saying it was stored in wine caskets. A very good beer!

Tap @ CBC, 2012.
[Best beer of the festival!]
Utterly opaque black with a lovely, staying, creamy, beige head. Aroma has red wine, oak, chocolate, cocoa, cognac, sherry, mild coffee, fairly sweet. Lowish carbonation, lovely dry and creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is simply amazingly balanced. Oak, red wine, coffee, chcoalte, whiskey smoky notes are subdued. Quite sweet but with good malty and oaky dryness to balance it. Sherry-like caramel notes, light vinious, a bit of grape. Fabulously blended. A finishing apple zestiness makes it just sooooo drinkable. Thanks Menno!

Draft @ De Molen. Aroma is lovely port, red wine, oak, vanilla, roasted malts, liquorice, coffee and more. Flavour is deep red wine, port, oak, whiskey, roasted malts, liquorice, red fruits and loads of other notes. Very intense, yet oh so smooth. Wow.

Finally, glad I could get a hold of this - on tap @ In De Wildeman. Pitch black color, dense, creamy beige head with long retention. Aroma’s: roasted malts, sweet, coffee, chocolate, wood. Retronasal there’s much more wood (oak), vanilla, boozy alcohol. Flavor is medium sweet, roasted, light bitter. Full bodied, velvetty. Somewhat prickly carbonation. Finishes with roast and some ash. Delicious.

Tap at Haand festival 2012. Black, with lovely brown head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Flavor is the same, with oak and hints of smoke. Fine sweetness, almost no bitterness. Extremely smooth, no sharp edges. The best beer I had at the festival.
