330 ml bottle bought at The Bottle Shop in Sai Kung.

Cloudy hazy golden orange colour with lots of dirt-like yeast sediments; Two and a half finger head with rich, long lasting crumpety off white foam, like a Belgian ale. Very sticky lacing with soft fizzy carbonation; Fragrant aroma of grapefruit, orange, lemon, honey, floral, wood, sweet malt, light spice and grass; Nice medium sweet taste of light grapefruit, orange, lemon, molasses, ale malt, earth, yeast, spices, light liquorices, bitter lime and grassy hops; Medium body, slick and quite oozy palate; Mouth feel is good - but not great - grapefruit and lemon, with strong spice and earth taste dominates, rich malty feel with further sips; Spicy and resin-like, and the hoppy elements provide some real hard edge, so spicy it’s quite caustic to my lips. Some brew! Hoppiness is potent grapefruit / lemon and woody nose. Sharp, edgy spicy, earthy and resin taste, and creeping herbal grassy hops work their way up for moderate bitterness and lasting astringency. Fairly dry after taste:, very hop-spicy and wholesome to mouth.

Comments: The people at De Molen must be very thoughtful about each of their brews. They knew their IIPAs are for super-fresh fruity hop attacks, so they focus this IPA proper with pumped-up hop-spiciness. Excellent head and looks, taste very rustic and hard-edged to balance out a somewhat less refreshing grapefruit and citrus, yet exciting and enjoyable. A perfect case of ‘different strokes for different folks’ and this case of IPA - or shall I say at this level - the balancing act works out just fine. A nice one!

Bottle. Pours orange with a large, off-white head. Aroma is a lot of green hops - Grapefruit and citrus, a touch of passionfruit. Taste is dry and fruity as well as refreshing and clean. A lot of grapefruit and citrus, a touch of soap. A lot of fruitiness - the aforementioned grapefruit, but also passionfruit. Light with just the right amount of carbonation.

33 cl bottle @ home. Pours murky golden with a lot of sediment and a huge white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is grapefruit, pine, and caramel. Flavour is much like the aroma – with a bitter finish.

333ml bottle. Dirty yellow with white head. Yeast, grassy with fruity (orange, grapefruit) hops, light caramel malts. Long dry bitterness. All hops and yeast over a very easy malt background. Flavourful but a little unbalanced. Good, nevertheless.

Draft @ DeMolen. Hazy yellow with a small white head. Aroma of grapefruit mostly with some light caramel and fruity notes. Flavor is firmly bitter with a nice malt backbone. Medium to light body. Good IPA, good bitterness compared to most other IPA’s in the area.

Bottle 33 cl, bottled on 10.02.2013. Pours hazy orange in color with a small head. A bit of citrus, grassy bitterness, rubber and fresh cut grass in aroma. Some fruityness, more lime-like, at this point in taste but there’s more bitter notes too, grapefruityness. Dry. Light herbal spicyness and fresh but bitter grassyness in aftertaste.

Bottle: Cloudy, deep golden with an orangey sheen, small, but stable creamy off-white head, solid grapefruity nose, some traces of herbal hops detectable; dry bitter flavour, relatively light bodied for a beer of 6.2%; dry lingering grapefruity-hoppy finish. Very good, but nearly a bit monotonous…
