On tap at De Molen (Bodegrave): it has had the time to get a little old. This beer is in the top 5 of the best beer I ever drank.

(Draught at Monk’s Porterhouse, Stockholm, 9 March 2012) Black colour with creamy, pale brown head. Fruity, malty nose with chocolate truffles, coffee and cocoa. Slightly vinous. Roasted, malty taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, liquorice, dark berries (blackberries), vanilla and a generous cocoa bitterness in a finish with a warming alcohol edge. Full body with dense, oily mouth-feel. A slight sweetness. Powerful stuff. Lovely beer!

Black with nice brown head. Taste has roasted malts, chocolat, coffe, hint of whiskey, wood and vanilla. Full body and nice soft carbo.

On tap at the brewery. Black with a creamy, light brown head. Wonderful orangey whiskey notes as well as bitter chocolate. Marcipan, whisky, chocolate, bitter oranges flavours. Difficult to beat this one.

Pitch black, tan head. Cream, roasted malts, tutti frutti. Very full body, smooth and warming without much alcohol. Signature impy from De Molen, I’d say. Big in bitterness and flavourful. (At the De Molen tasting)

Schokoladenmalziger Beginn mit leichter, gut passender Süße. Röstiger werdend, die Süße bleibt. Später etwas herber, der Alkohol zeigt sich, greift aber nicht aktiv ins geschehen ein. Leicht nussig, vergorene Banane. Sehr gut! 11/13/13/14/12/13

Bottle 75 cl. Pours an opaque black with a dense light brown head. Sweet and fat vanillaish Bourbon aroma. Solid body, subtle roast, plenty of chocolate, the smooth oaky notes turn into an odd gluey finale the isn’t entirely sophisticated. Ends with roaring alcohol. 280212

Draught at Monk’s Porterhouse, Stockholm. Black, small beige head. Mature brandyish nose with caramel and black pepper. Sweet and fruity, full bodied with some syrup. Slight metallic finish with more brandy. Quite edgy.

Brasserie 4:20 (tap). Bevuta al De Molen beer festival. Nerissima, densa e impenetrabile, con schiuma beige non molto persistente. Al naso è aspra, grezza, con note di cioccolato, vaniglia e caffè e alcol ben percettibile. In bocca è caffettosa, con un bell’amaro intenso dato da una luppolatura generosa e alcol ben in evidenza (anche troppo). Corpo medio, carbonazione corretta. Sgraziata, poco bilanciata, alcolica, difficile da domare anche in un bicchierino da degustazione.

Cork opens spontaneously after the removal of the metal holder.
Aroma has bourbon, vanilla and whiskey. Also some rubber typical to Mikkeller Black. Flavour has some stinging bourbon with vanilla. Too much CO2 and stinging bourbon, but good still.
