4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
From 750ml bottle at Cask Pub & Kitchen on 10 May 2011. My Dutch vocabulary continues to increase with each new De Molen beer I drink. This was absolutely scrumptious. So much so that I was too busy drinking to make more than a cursory note. Almost black. Lots of chocolate. Bourbon influence is fairly subtle. Rich but firm. Distinct bitterness provides a good balance to all that richness. Will have to drink this again and attempt to make some better notes. No great hardship there.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at Kernel Brewery, thanks to Evin. It pours darkest brown with a thin brown head. The nose is charcoal, soy, caramel, liquorice and dark chocolate. The taste is caramel, ash, toast, quite fizzy, sesame seed, salted liquorice, coffee and dark chocolate. Another quality Imperial Stout from De Molen, but not my personal favourite.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Ultra-deep chestnut coloured beer with small brown-beige head. Roasted, coffee, moccha, black chocolate and little cacao powder, but also Bourboun, black plums, fusels and toad (this must be magic potion!). Very roasted coffee (ending drab-bitter), roasted pecannuts, burnt potatoes, Bourbon with all the sweetness gone - except for the very end, where alcohol starts to convey a kind of sweetness, with vanilla suggestion, all but smothered in the burnt/roasted notes. Luxurious, filthily rich MF, viscous, warming. Oh, well. Rich becomes mundane @ De Molen.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Dark as a moon-less night, small brown head. Aroma of oak, vanilla, mildly roasted stuff, dark fruits, soft liquorice, dark chocolate and a bit of coffee. Taste is similar with more of the thick coffee, oil, deception, trickery and something that must be made of dark matter. A tiny bit of alcohol is apparent, but not overly so. Black goodness!

Corked bottle. Black and opague. The bourbon aroma jumps out of your glass. oak, ash, licorice. Dried fruit, grapes, loads of bourbon, ash, charcoal and some dark chocolate in the alcoholic flavor. The bourbon is quite dominant, too dominant perhaps, but who cares...
