4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 madmitch76 (9867) - , Essex, ENGLAND - JUN 4, 2012
31st December 2009 Cloudy dark brown beer. Complex nose of soft hops and a little chocolate. Softish palate, pretty low carbonation. Soft but rich hops. Spritzy orange marmalade, not bitter. A little aniseed alcohol presents early. The hops then cycle through grassy and spicy before fading in to subtle pear. The malt kicks in with subtle chocolate and a little brandy, somewhat barleywine like. Rich and complex beer, it finishes with hop fruit and malt richness. Semi dry finish. Moderately bitter aftertaste.

Well, until anything hits me like this did, this is my favourite beer. I have to try this again if I’m ever lucky enough to find another. In fact, this will force me to visit De Molen. Also, in my defence, I was very drunk when I had this. At The Summer Beer Festival in Rome on our MesandSim’s stag do. Legendary hosting from Alex at 4:20, top crowd of lads, fit singer in the band, great beer. I think I was drinking this when I did my Mr. Lif routine. I feel no shame whatsoever. I love this beer. Loving those amarillo hops but there is so much in here. Every sip was a journey it’s complex. Instant tummy banana material. My notes just ramble on about sex but I will never forget how good this tasted. Fucking awesome. This is why I love beer.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 fiulijn (12179) - Malmö, DENMARK - SEP 6, 2011
Draught at Bishop’s Arms, Malmö Cloudy dark brown color, with a generous and creamy head, persistent. What surprises the most is the bitter oranges aroma, with a hint of caramel and tobacco. Strong body; strong caramel flavor and quite good chocolate too, with medium sweetness; light woody vanilla; there is some more darker caramel in the end; but the fruity edge is present again, and it doesn’t blend well with the rest. For being a sweet - strong - hopped - malty beer, it’s pleasant to drink, but it’s also chaotic; it’s difficult to find a purpose.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Leighton (6931) - London, ENGLAND - SEP 1, 2011
Bottle in Rome during The Stag Do. Has a hoppy nose with some roast. Moss and pine. Pretty sweet, strong flavor, dark roast malts, booze, sugar, faint cocoa. Full bodied with average carbonation. Warm finish, boozy, malty sugars, some lingering sticky hops. Great beer, pretty dynamic.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Kristall-König (1843) - Oldenburg, GERMANY - JUN 13, 2011

12/11/11/13//11
