3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Foffern (728) - Bergen, NORWAY - OCT 27, 2011
Dark hazy amber with a big, thick head. Aromas of raisins, caramel, bread, leather and woody. Some roasty smoke in the end. Lightly sweet, medium bitterness not lingering. Above medium body, slick and little bit oily, flat carbo. Overall it feels like a strong english ale with a hint of Belgium. Reminds a bit of a british barley wine.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Mezcalmannen (395) - Oslo, NORWAY - OCT 12, 2011
UPDATED: OCT 13, 2011 It starts out tasting sweet, than some sourness kicks in but the bitterness dominates in the lasting finish. The taste is roasty and of dark chocolate. The aroma is sweet and caramel dominates. It has a dark copper colour and a large off-white head that diminishes. I was thoroughly impressed by this brew! (Bottle)
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 larsga (5324) - Oslo, NORWAY - OCT 7, 2011
Gusher. Big offwhite head. Hazy deep red body with strong
carbonation. Fruity sugary funky aroma with wooden notes.
Dry-sweet resiny wooden fruity taste with sugary roasty notes.
Mid-bodied. Slightly harsh mouthfeel. Harshly bitter wooden
resiny aftertaste with funky sugary notes. Too harsh, sweet, and
funky. Disharmonic. (0.33l bottle, wine monopoly, Vika, Oslo.)
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Palme (2234) - Bergen, NORWAY - OCT 3, 2011
0.33l bottle. What a head! Probably the biggest head I’ve ever seen on a beer. It also has a near murky dark nutty-red-brownish body, but the gigantic, everlasting and fluffy beige head really made my day! The aroma is filled with balsamic and dark wood-tones mixed with some sweet caramel wrapped in Belgian yeast. Not horrible at all. After waiting some minutes the head has come down to a reasonable level and it’s possible to have a sip. Lively carbonation, medium-bodied with a light oily mouthfeel. Flavors are quite weird with lots of leather and licorice. Not the normal kind of licorice but more like sipping on the licorice-root itself. Lots of wood blended with something tart and yeasty. Bitter and herbal finish with hints of cocoa in the aftertaste. Weird stuff, but I kinda liked it.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ClubGonzo (2692) - Bergen, NORWAY - SEP 24, 2011
Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Valkendorfsgate, Bergen. Pours a hazy rust-colored body with a medium off-white head. Nose is toffee and licorice tones, with hints of pine, grass and caramel. Taste is fuzzy, grassy hops up front; then the beer mellows down on the palate with lots of licorice, pine and cough medicinal tones before a finishing off with a tight, near-astringent bitterness. A bit rough, perhaps a bit of cellaring would smoothen things up? Anyway, a pretty decent ESA from De Molen.
