GoufCustom (1305) - HONG KONG - AUG 14, 2013

330 ml bottle bought at The Bottle Shop in Sai Kung.

Cloudy hazy dark amber brown colour with lots of dirt like, darkish yeast sediments; Two finger head with rich, long lasting crumpety beige foam, like a Belgian ale. Very sticky lacing with soft fizzy carbonation; Fragrant aroma of full ale malt, with nice light grapefruit, biscuit, bread, plums, orange peel, lemon and light spice; Very nice medium sweet taste of ale malt, with light grapefruit, rich plums and raisins, toffee, yeast, molasses, light spices, light alcohol, citrus and herbal hops; Medium body, slick palate; Mouth feel is fairly rich and tasty ale malt with very good elements of toffee, caramel, raisins / dark fruits, rich yeast, light grapefruits and spices. Very malty and biscuit, yet nicely sweet and dry fruity. All complement each other very well. I feel good! The 7.5% abv is quite seductive, doesn’t hide itself under the sand yet light enough and blends well with overall taste. A marvel! Hoppiness is nice light grapefruit and lemon nose, Moderately spicy and earthy taste, and fairly light herbal grassy hops work well enough for flickering astringency and finish; Slightly dry after taste:, fairly sweet and fruity to mouth.

Comments: This is a very fitting ESA. Although not as outwardly colourful as Fuller’s 1845, it’s rich enough in maltyness, fruityness, yeastiness (loads of dark yeast!), and just spicy and hoppy enough to make this brew refreshing under a post-typhoon Summer night like tonight, or better, a fitting winter warmer like many top dog ESAs. Highly recommended!

Bottle 23/06/11. A very lively pour resulting in a dark amber beer with a big foamy slightly off-white head. Medium body. Big sweet biscuity aroma, with dark fruits - prunes mainly - coming through too. The biscuit, dark fruits are there as well as caramel, a touch of citrus and a nice smooth boozy bitter hit. Good.

Slightly chilled bottle. Two years and one day old. Dark orange/red with the usual huge head which endures. Smell - old ale, caramel, yeast, molasses, tangerine. Carbonation - mid to soft. Taste - typical De Molen caramel, liquorice, sweet honey flavours with a decent dose of bitterness. Enjoyable high quality beer. Not quite to my taste though, which reduces the rating slightly.

WAY to much carbo ! intresting amberish-hoppy-taste. nice one, but imma have to give this a lower rate cause its almost undrinkably carbonated. whyyyyyyyyyyyyy?????
