On tap @ De Molen 13/12/2011 (taken from notes): pours clear, deep amber with beige, rapidly disappearing head - Nose of cherries and dark fruit, raisings. Taste is very sweet; malty, raisins, some port. Alcohol is only at the finish.

UPDATED: JAN 25, 2012 24/12/2010 Ma che siete venuti a fà (tap). Bevuta al Macche con Pippi. Ambrata scura, intensa, con riflessi rubino, schiuma praticamente assente. Intensissimo aroma, fruttato, caramellato, con forti note di cognac e alcool. In bocca ha un sapore dolciastro, forte e aggressivo, con note di ciliegia, more, lamponi, frutta secca e legno, con finale secco. Corpo medio, carbonazione soft. Pericolosamente alcolica. Barley Wine straordinario. Bevuto fresco alla spina, chissà invecchiato...

Very powerfull, sweet, some licorice, mint. Full body, good carbo for a barley wine.

UPDATED: FEB 19, 2012 Brown with a red glow, small head. Lacing is great. Madeira, tutti fruity. Just barely expressive enough. But wow, what a perfect sweet, powerful, rich, interesting, lasting and impressive taste. Mind you, not to try this as first beer of the night. But as a closer it is amazing. Bottiglietta vintage, barley wine spaziale, in realtà forse troppo alcool al naso, ma perfetto in bocca. Corpo leggerino a dispetto dei quasi 18 gradi.

Bottle number 10, vintage 2010.
Clear reddish with no head. Aroma of cognac, sherry, wood and toffee. Big body on this one, notes of alcohol but in a plesant way. Very smooth to drink despite 17,4%. How lucky that I have a bottle left. What a wonderful beer!

Nice dark amber colored beer. Complex but balanced taste. The alcoholpercentage might be 17, but it tastes like less. Sweet, syropy. Nice brew!

0.18l bottle from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen shared with ClubGonzo and the rest of Bergen Tasting Crew. Pours a cloudy yeasty light brown body with no head. Aroma is beautiful cognac, woody, strong raisins notes, sweet figs, chocolate, dark burned caramel, surprisingly low alcohol and hints of sweet plums. Beautiful indeed! Medium-bodied, no carbonation and it has a light oily mouthfeel. Tastes really really sweet. Extremely well hidden alcohol. Nice notes of milk chocolate, some dried dark fruits and hints of nuts. Lots of sweet dates and raisins in the finish, and it actually ends a bit conflicting with a both light dry and light watery finish. Good beer, and it can actually remind me a bit of the fantastic Utopias.
