Tepid transparent tan, no head. Cognac and sea water nose, light raisin and caramel. Flavor very sweet, chocolate, brown sugar, and severe oxidation with minor caramel. Body is washed out. Not much here beyond the oxidized sweetness.

UPDATED: MAR 8, 2011 On draught @Ma che siete venuti a fà (Rome). Dark amber & red appearance, no foam. Aroma has clear notes of cognac and wood. The taste is sweet with some notes o dried fruits. The alcohol is evident. Full body. Amazing barleywine!

180mL red waxed courtesy of Travlr. Pours a flat, clear amber with no head formation. Aroma is heavy oxidized red apples, intense soy oxidation. Taste is sweet, spicy, rich, loads of brown sugar piling on, no real cognac presence. Tawny port like qualities from the spicy, vinous alcohol aren’t really able to stand out against the soy and green apples. Disappointing.

Sweet caramel nose with lots of green notes. The taste is extremely sweet, light bitterness, lots of golden fruit, some raisins, some light prune. I’m just going to stop here... it sucks.

Dark chestnut colour with a small off-white head. Strong aroma dominated by dried fruit, malt and wine, oak, cognac and warm alcohol. Very sweet malty flavour of caramel and toffee, with wine and fruit. Balanced and dangerously drinkable barleywine

Borefts Beer Festival 2010, on tap. Very sweet, wine overtones strong in the beer but smooth in the aftertaste. Nice.

On tap @ In De Wildeman, in snifter glass. Red brown color, no head to speak of. Aroma’s of caramel, sticky toffee, cognac, ripe fruit. Fruity sweet flavor. Alcohol well hidden, but massive body. Flavor lingers on. Good desert beer.

ante (3374) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - DEC 1, 2010
Draught at Monks Porterhouse, Stockholm. Pours out in a shady reddish brown colour with a small creamy off-white head. Big, deep and sweet aroma of prunes, dates, figs, raisins, wood and caramelized sugar. Big chewy yet rounded body with rich well-integrated flavours of prunes, raisins, dates, red grape-peels, mild wood, white pepper and blue plums with a heat from the alcohol. Long rounded sweet finish of blue plums, wood, candied raisins and mild white pepper. World-class!

Draught at Monk’s Porterhouse, Stockholm. Clear reddish brown, miniscule head. Aroma of cognac and wild strawberries. Sweet and soft with deep, vast malt character. Fruity and intensely malty, warming and potent, yet balanced and elegant. Soem figs and port, fairly low bitterness. Fantastic stuff, like a cloud of flavour that surrounds all your senses!
